I needed to make an Acme thingy to use in a build of another thingy.I don't have a jig for attaching round stock "ears" to bolts or other round things.So...................................I need the Acme threaded rod to be hinged. To make sure the axle/pin was true, I welded it to a piece of flat stock. Then used an annular cutter to cut a hole through the round stock, and flat stock, in a single pass.  This left me with an absolutely true axle. Then I welded a piece of extruded tubing in the hole to accept the threaded bar. This is one piece completed.  It will be the imobile part of the assemblyThere is another to do on the next post Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:This next assembly is the nut assembly which will travel along the threaded rod as the rod is turned. It's slightly different, but the same principle. The axle was welded to the piece of flat stockThen a section of the axle was cut outThen a hole big enough to allow the threaded rod to pass freely was cut through the stockAnd the nut welded on.  The axles, although not touching the nut, will stay true.  Welding in the gap would cause the assembly to bow due to the shrinkageWeird, but it works Attached ImagesLast edited by farmersamm; 09-29-2011 at 09:54 PM.Reason: added an explanation"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:When you go fishing, you use the right bait.  I'm hooked, now tell us what it's for!Got to be something with a heavier load since you used acme thread.  You're pulling something together with the pins I assume.  Probably not pushing since that's a fairly long rod compared to it's thickness.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
