I have a quick question..70s-2 or 70s-6?????????? Which would be better to use a for a bend test On two inch pipe schedule 160 carbon steel.????? What is the real difference between the two filler metals?
Reply:I would use either one but #2 is most common..Difference is in machineability..But they are the same but different.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:S2 will have less Mn and Si, and will have Ti, Zr, and Al additions for grain refinement and deoxidizing. less slag islands in theoryExperience is something you get right after you need it
Reply:To add just a bit to what ZAP said, the S-2 is generally used when your materials are "cleaner", hence a better choice for your pipe application providing that you are being meticulous with the set-up and preparation of the weld joint. The S-6 accommodates a bit more issues with outside contaminants, ie. rust, mill scale, and other surfact contaminants. Regardless of choice, with the GTAW process, cleanliness is next to godliness and will provide a higher quality weld everytime. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:I like the s-2 for root pass welding because of its more sluggish puddle. s-6 has a more fluid puddle.Either filler will work for your application and pass bend tests no prob.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
