I wanted to get some help on this. I bought a 300cf Argon tank from a tractor company, they no longer needed it. It had a clear neck ring. He was really nice and told me and told me to go to the welding supply to fill it. He called and had them arrange for it.  I went down to get it filled, they gave me one of theirs and I paid and left. When I get home I see that the neck has property of (their company) I don't know I cant read the other side since I haven't touched it, I have to wait till tomorrow to call them.  Should I demand for a clear neck ring? Did I just get ripped of?
Reply:Get a clear ring otherwise it is theirs. They may have to send yours out to be filledDynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:Location makes a different. Most cylinders that size in my area are rental only with welding supplier  name  on neck. Some will take your owner tank and send it out with theirs for filling.
Reply:He took my nice clear ring bottle and gave me a rusted up bottle with the property of the company stamped on the neck. I still have the recipt though. Should I worry?

Reply:if it is stamped with there name on the neck ring it belongs to them ......i sometimes get back bottles with there name on them for my owner bottles but has never been an issue the LWS does not always have owner bottles that are full in stockMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]

Reply:So should I call and demand they swap it out for a clear neck? Or should I use it and when I re fill it  ask for a clear neck ring?
Reply:Just call them and ask. Here the bigger bottles are usually lease bottles, and have a lease ID stamped on them. Most of my owner bottles have some name or another on the ring, it means nothing, as they are owner bottles.
Reply:What does the receipt say?....customer owned? yes? end of story.
Reply:it really doesn't make all that much difference as long as you intend on always using them as your supplier. I own all my cylinders. I pay no rental or lease fees or certifications on any of them. they all have liberty welding on the necks though... I just exchange when I need a refill. never really a problem, it's not like liberty welding is ever going to walk into my shop and say hey those are mine and I want them back... if liberty ever went out of business then I'm fairly sure if I walked into another welding supply and explained the situation they would in turn exchange my cylinder for one of there's ,and I'd continue on as I am, just kind of married to the supplier on my neck. where the problem would come is if I ever decided to switch suppliers, at that point, and if liberty is still in business, then the competitor won't want to touch it because as far as THEY are concerned the cylinder "belongs" to liberty, weather they actually own it or not. technically I could get a letter from liberty stating that the cylinders I have belong to me and they lay no claim to them, then I could exchange them with another supplier and they would probably be fine with that and give me one with there own branding in exchangemaybe all you should ask for is a receipt stating that it is a customer owned cylinderLast edited by turbocad6; 05-14-2013 at 10:37 PM.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:My bottle for my MIG says airgas on it. I get it filled at northern welding.
Reply:OK cool, you guys are great. I feel better now. I'll call them tomorrow anyway, but at least I'll be able to sleep tonight. I picked up the bottle for $275 and it came with 3 tig torches, one of them being a Lincoln Pro-Torch TIG Torch PTA-26 with extra leads, and a box of consumables. I then got it filled for $40 I feel like I made out pretty good.I don't need the torches ot consumables so if anyone wants to pic them up let me know... I'm not sure about the value, but I'm thinking at least $125 shipped. hehe
Reply:I don't pay more than $50 for a 20lb co2, $75 for 80 cuft, $125 for 125-150 cuft, $150 for 300 cuft. At these prices on Craigslist I get 10-12 bottles a year. I do not take a bottle with a name on the neck unless it is a military name. I have bought and sold at a profit over a hundred bottles, and after getting stiffed a couple of times I won't touch a bottle with a name at all.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:Normally , there isn't a problem in exchanging 125/150. It depends on how much to refill. The prices vary by supplier. One outfit will exchange your bottle for one of theirs buy charge a REPAINT fee to paint the one you brought in.
Reply:I have been running into this same issue lately trying to track down a cylinder cheaper than just buying one outright from a gas supplier. I have had two people offer to sell me large (250 cf or more) cylinders, but in every case, they were stamped with a gas supplier's name, and so were probably rental units. The local gas suppliers said that if I had documentation that the cylinder was privately owned (such as a bill of sale on the welding supply's letterhead) then they could fill the cylinder for me, but they would not exchange it. In other words, I could drop off my cylinder, they would send it out to be filled, and a week and a half later (or whatever) I could come back to pick up that very same bottle. If the cylinder is stamped with the gas supplier's name, then they can just exchange it for another of the same size, which is also stamped with their name. But none of these suppliers do private-owned sales above 125 cf, so they don't have any un-stamped cylinders in large sizes to exchange. That's probably why the supplier just exchanged you for a cylinder that was stamped with their name.Bottom line: if you want your nice clean cylinder back, you can get it, but you'll have to make two trips to your supplier--one to drop it off, and one to pick it up after it's been filled. I have read that some suppliers don't want to deal with having to track your cylinder through processing and will decline to accept any cylinder that they can't just exchange.
Reply:Everything is cool.  he is ordering me one with no name on the ring and he said I can use this one until then, use all tha gas I want. That's service! A.O.C also said they would fill it as long as I had an invoice proving its not stolen so I'm getting that from the weldingsuply tomorrow

Reply:Recently bought a 330 cu ft argon cylinder off eBay that was marked "property of Airgas". Paid $140 for it. Airco, who bought Airgas, exchanged it for another cylinder marked "property of (some other out of business co)".
Reply:My AirGas is still AirGas.Hmm.Anyways, blah blah blah. This same old subject comes up often. It doesn't seem to be consistent from town to town and from one LWS to another. I think it all has to do with your relationship with the LWS. If they know you, they will probably help you out. Otherwise, who are you? Why would they help you out? Reply:All taken care of! :-)The welding house is about 25miles further from mathison, but he said he would refill my tank for $40 bucks (300cf) and the one tank he gave me with the welding house name on it, told me to use as much gas as I want and when my cylinder is ready he would give me call. Talk about rolling out the red carpet. I feel important! Lol I'm making the longer drive for sure!
