I got an 81 SA 200. I need to add a WATER TEMP GAUGE. Does it install at the water pump. i noticed i have an allen screw on the top of the water pump and was wondering if i can pull it out and drop in the temp probe there. TELL ME WHAT Y'ALL THINK.
Reply:I have seen them installed in the head. If you look at your oil filter, you will see an allen screw to the right of the filter on the head. I've been told they are very hard to get out. Hope this helps.

Reply:You DO NOT want to situate it in the water pump.Cylinder head is the normal place to put a coolant temperature probe or sensor. Near to where the thermostat housing and top radiator hose connect to the head is the ideal place to feel the coolant temperature.
Reply:should i go with the Murphy or do y'all recommend something else

Reply:Oops. Didn't see that you already posted that thread gizzardgutz. I was looking for the link to the better Continental manual that shows the proper installation of the t-stat and retainer ring but couldn't find it. However, I did post a .doc file of the image from the "good" manual in the T-Stat thread.
