Reply:This was shot with a Nikon D300. I don't remember which lens we used right now, I'll find out.The gloves in this picture are about 4 months old, but there is a reason why they look as good as they do. They are only used for this specific application which includes welding stainless steel or titanium, and every single part I weld goes through a multi step ultrasonic cleaning process. So, everything they touch is extremely clean. My "other" gloves don't look nearly as nice.I've worked on all sorts of Ti project from battle bot weapons to airplane components. Currently I am the lead welder at a company called Advanced Armament. The item in the picture is one of the Ti silencers we make.Welder @ AAC
Reply:Nice picture for a photography website, but this being a welding website, I would like to see the picture taken after the weld has been done.

Reply:That is a hell of a gas lens and torch setup.  I would like to see the finished product...........if you can show it.Lots of toys.

Reply:Originally Posted by Showdog75If he can show the product I don't see why he couldn't show the same piece after welding. Looks like awfully big filler for such a small weld. Also the tungsten looks way to nasty for my taste , especially if welding Ti..
Reply:Wow that would be an awesome job, especially if they had employee discounts    Unfortunately I can't support your company at this time due to living in IL.  If you take your muffler off your vehicle, that is illegal, but if you want to put a muffler on your rifle, THAT is illegal also.  What a crock of BS.  Just out of curiosity, where did you learn to weld titanium at?  I'm taking welding classes full time right now but I think aluminum is as "exotic" as we'll get, mainly due to time.
Reply:Hey tigwiz. Can I use this picture to e-mail to my buddy? He has a couple of your cans. Is this particular one .30 cal?  Sorry off topic. Keep up the good work.

Reply:Hey TigWiz - does that gas saver glass cup stay clean very long?  I've always wondered.  I sure seem to smoke up my alumina cups pretty quickly for one reason or another.  (Such as forgetting to turn on the gas.  )

Reply:Wow, 50 hrs on that crystal-clear looking glass cup is impressive!  OK, maybe I won't write these off so quickly, now I would like to give one a try sometime!  Thanks
Reply:The best part about this cup is looking at the arc through the cup. When you get used to it, going back to a standard setup is a downer. Welder @ AAC

Reply:any tips you want to pass down when welding titanium I have a couple of scrap pieces to play with?????I'm glad, that was the point How long the clear cups stay clear? and how much heat can they handle? I want to get some of those CK ww for quite a while, but i'm afraid it's just a waste of money and they will crack or something..--------------------------------------------------------------www.becmotors.nlyup, I quit welding.. joined welder anonymous
Reply:The cup stays clear as long as you clean it, and I havn't reached a temp limit yet. I've used up to 160 amps with this setup, for short periods of time, with no ill effects. I think this setup is a great investment, so long as your responsible and only use it for what is was intended to be used with. Do go welding dirty hot rolled steel with it, its just not smart.Welder @ AAC

Reply:Originally Posted by DesertRider33I had the CK clear pyrex gas saver cups on my CK torch when I first bought it.  After breaking and replacing enough of them to realize they are 1) expensive and 2) not stocked at any local shop so have to be special ordered and 3) don't give much additional benefit over a regular gas saver lens and pink cup, I switched over to regular lenses and pink cups and haven't been sorry about it at all.
Reply:Thanks for your feedback on clear CK cups guys... good to hear various opinions from those who have tried them. What do you all think about the CK "wedge" collets?  These may come with the CK clear pyrex cup ("gas saver") kits.I just got a wedge collet (3/32") along with a new CK torch, although I haven't tried either out yet.  Initial impressions: it was made of brass instead of the usual copper.  It seems to works by the tip being ground with an angle, which makes it "rock" in the collet body, and bind sideways against the tungsten.I am hopeful the "wedge" might make small tungsten stickout-adjustments easier.  It cost me about $2.50I am also experimenting with some "stubby" CK collet bodies (let you put 9/20 cups on 17/18 torch bodies.)   These cost about $5 for the standard collet body version, and about $7.50 for the gas lens version.
Reply:biggest thing I noticed about the wedge is that you can just loosen the back cap slightly enough to slide the tungsten out, but then you can't get the tungsten back in, you have to loosen the back cap a few more turns & hold the torch with the tungsten opening facing up so the collet falls back enough to insert the tungsten, especially if you don't sharpen the inside end & leave the color paint on the inside tip. another thing is the design of the wedge makes it that inserting the tungsten into the torch is easy with just gravity but drawing it back out isn't... the collet kinda wedges against the tungsten in a way that it resists sliding back out even when the back cap is loose, so if you have a short tungsten & it happened to slide all the way in, you have to shake & vibrate it to try to get the tungsten to slide back out because it's kinda caught, sometimes almost having to remove the rear cap to eject the tungsten... also notice that when you tighten the back cap you can kinda get a false tightening then it kinda clicks into place & you can get another 1/2 turn to tighten it again... none of these things are a huge pain but a bit tricky when your used to regular collets..  now before you go thinking you don't want wedge you should also know that I think the benefit of the wedge outweighs all the drawbacks & the benefit is that the wedge makes it pretty easy to really get a good clamp down on a tungsten without having to crank the rear cap so tight... without the wedge collet I find that sometimes I've made the cap pretty finger tight & the tungsten can still be kinda moved... making you have to struggle to get it really tight, the wedge collets tighten the tungsten much more securely with less effort, so overall even with the pita parts of then I still prefer them...also, another thing on these clear glass cups... yeah if you only use them on sanitary things they stay clear for a really long time & can almost last forever if you take care of them & don't drop them , but, if you do happen to use them on more messy stuff then yeah they will get smoked out & built up with crap in them, but, because they are glass they can be cleaned inside with a razor blade like you would clean any other glass with over spray residue.. what I do is use one of these for the more messy stuff & then scrape the inside with a razor kinda the same way you'd scrape out the inside of your MIG shield every once in a while... eventually it'll get kinda pitted & stuff & they won't last forever using them like this, but you can clean & reuse them quite a bit even with less than the surgically clean stuff... you can even clean them with a bit of #000 or better yet #0000 steel wool... once you get used to these you want to use them for everything that happens to be hard to see otherwise.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
