The guy at the welding supply house mentioned there is a square wave dc tig out now that handles aluminum with straight argon...is this even true and if so what machines have this technology?ThermalArc 181i | Lotos WS200
Reply:Squarewave DC ?  That's a new one on me...
Reply:DC "waves" always seem to look kinda............flat? Reply:Originally Posted by papaharley03I can only see that being possible if they have implemented an HF signal that also performs the cleaning action for the main DC arc. That is in fact, how we deposited aluminum on top of a prior layer in semiconductor manufacturing. But the process chamber was also in a high vacuum state. Station1 was RF etch, then stations 2, 3, and 4 each deposited up to 10k angstroms of DC sputtered aluminum. The RF etch was necessary to remove ANY remaining oxide before depostion, else you'd get high contact resistance. Of course, high resistance in that context being what most would consider a short circuit on their hand held ohm meter. The gas in the chamber was Argon, but not for shielding, it was to keep the metal from being too shiny which would cause problems with pattern recognition cameras in the photolithography part of the process.Papa
Reply:Aluminum on DC with argon does not work, try it.Aluminum on DC with helium does work,no cleaning action and only works with 4043 filler. One cool thing about photolithography is that if you have much knowledge of it from the olden days(80's) you most likely know what is stripper was,and it has nothing to do with taking one clothes off or furniture.Last edited by vwguy3; 05-24-2013 at 03:34 PM.
Reply:The only thing I can think that he could refer to is Kemppi's MIX TIG.Some of the time you have AC current (which you can adjust all the parameters like balance frequency etc.) and for some time you get DC current.
