Reply:It's fairly light.. I'ld say around 25pounds..

Reply:It's a school project, so I had the machinery.. I universal bending machine.. it's 1/8"
Reply:looks  great  job well done just gota question/s as to saftey: fire on bottom intense heat  can burn floor/surface under .  are you going to use fire brick in the bottom?an grates are needed to keep off the bottom to provide air under fire and easy of cleaning ashes BUT LOOKS  VERY WELL DONE
Reply:As far as the bottom, I think we have to put fire bricks. For the ashes, good point.. they didn't think of that on the plans.. lol
Reply:My woodstove for the house doesn't have fire bricks on the bottom and it's a commercial brand stove. It's a good idea to use them as they hold the heat longer and protect the metal to a degree, however my house stove only has bricks on the side and a few going from the back to the top. My guess for that is to protect the flue from the heat?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Used a stove for several years that had a firebrick lining, no grate.  Just shovel ashes out when they built up too thick.  Coals would be centered, ashes around the edges would have some small coals.  Let them set for several days outside before emptying to reduce chance of live coals starting a fire in the field out back.
Reply:what is an Ice Fish?  i've never caught one of those.just kidding.  very nice build.
Reply:thats very nice  better put it on some bricks or something on the ice...once those legs get hot... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:yup.. the legs should have been capped.. guess those are mods I'll make to the plan when I put it on the computer

Reply:The stove looks good.  Why put fire brick in a stove that you would want to cool down quickly?  You have to be able to load the thing in your car when you're done, you don't want to wait an hour or shut it down early so it has time to cool.  Heavier metal means a heavier stove, do you really want to have to haul a 50+ lb stove around when dragging your other gear out on the lake?  As far as longevity, the stove isn't a sole source of heat, it gets used sparingly on weekends, you sacrifice longevity for practicality.

Reply:I believe 1/8" should be plenty thick.  I have seen one such stove made of 14 guage work just fine for years upon end.  the only problem ran into was less metal seemed to be less heat.
Reply:i was on a assembly line for a little while doing wood fire places and i think the material was 3/16 or so thick....possibly 1/4. if its going in your shop i would probably do it out of 1/4 just for peace of mind, just my thoughts though
Reply:Great looking portable stove. will you be adding plans soon i hope?
Reply:Cost you $25 'eh.  I'll give you $50 and, uh, errr, you pay shipping ***************************************Lincoln AC225 stick welderLincoln HD100 WeldPak flux core wire feed welderThree of the cheapest grinders money can buy
Reply:looks very nice.  Where are you fishing? If it is in MN and you leave it in your house i would weld some sort of lock on it.  I only had 2 fires in mine before they busted my unlocked door and stole it.

Reply:Just so I stay Karmatically correct, I'll remind those that ice fish with one of these NOT to speed up cool down by dousing it with ice water! There's a reason they are nicknamed "Hippie killers"..... Reply:somebody have any pictures of these?  All I see are little red x'sOriginally Posted by PookieI am building one to go in a shop. It will be stationary and a sole source of heat. So, back to my question:Is 1/8" thick enough?
