So all of these trailer and hitch builds got me motivated to post one of mine This trailer is used at the Golf Course I work at and is used as a beverage trailer for holding all the beer as the girls drive around the course... so it better be strong, there is beer at stake here. The original trailers were HF specials, and over the course of two years we broke the necks, spring perches, springs, axles, and finally the frame. They were so hodge podged together I decided to just start fresh. The boss said to make sure they never break again... ever.Broken FrameFrame removed from the beverage unit.New frame built from 2x2 1/8 wall, and the axle is 2x2 1/4 wall. The vertical weld here is a little cold and lumpy... not my best work at all.I don't have any finished pics unfortunately. The trailers were put back together and have work flawlessly for the last 5 months. They a lot smoother riding than the old trailers were and they seem to wear the tires better.
Reply:Nice trailer. Looks sturdy enough. Will   Supports Autism Awareness                            My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .
Reply:ok, so it's definately stronger. but why no suspension? personally I'm not a fan of my beer being shaken up before I drink it.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:im curious about the suspension as well - suspension normally helps when you put weight on the trailer....things are gonna get pretty bumpy

Reply:You would think suspension would be better right? Not what I found... I tested that. Drove around with the old trailer with suspension, and put the beverage unit on another small trailer we have at work with no suspension. It was actually noticeable smoother with no suspension... I could have hooked up an accelerometer and gotten real quantitative data... but that is a bit excessive. Simply put it work better now and everyone is happy.
Reply:If the cans are floating in a mixture of ice and water, instead of ice alone it acts as a suspension in a way and doesn't shake up the beer. Sodas may be a different story as they tend to sink to the bottom of the cooler where motion transfer may be more of a problem. That is if this is used to carry ice chests to keep everything cold. What were y'all pulling the first trailers with to tear them up like they were? I wouldn't think a golf cart could put enough stress on them to do that. What you built looks like it will stand up to MORE abuse than the first ones ever could have hoped for. Looks good, show us some pics of the finished trailers with the ladies serving drinks from them.
Reply:Any time I've had a mixture of both Ice and water to the point where beverages could have the potential for sinking or floating, They've always sunk. cans and bottles alike. I can see not having the suspention because there is nothing to stop the motion. If the trailer had shocks on it, that would be a different story. Ever riden in a car where the shocks were bad? you'll bounce for days. I'd bet one whole american dollar that thats why it road worse than the solid axle set up.My guess is that the HF trailers where used beyond their design. the 12" wheel trailers that size are only rated for 1050 lbs 100 gallons of fluid is 870+. plus the metal for the beverage unit. I'm betting the trailer was just maxed out if not overloaded 90% of the time.Just a suggestion, but you might want to put drain holes in the beverage containers. Yes you'll go through more ice, and ice and water cool a beverage faster than just ice, but the drains will help prevent the trailer from excessive wear, thus extending longevity of the tires in your case, as the suspension is solid. you could even put the drain at just above the fill line of a typical soda bottle. that way the bottom is always submerged. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Unit already has drains... don't know what the weight is, never cared to calculate it. The tires are 6 ply units rated for 1500 lbs @ 50 psi  I have personally drank beer straight from the ole trailer... it isn't shook up at all.
