Newbie project

I'm looking for a first project and I thought I'd make a table.  I don't have a lot of space so i was thinking of a folding table 3'x2'.  Any one have a recommendation on designs?  I saw this thread http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=90021 which looks amazing but I don't quite think i could reproduce it from the pictures alone.  also i don't have a plasma CNC. Also where do I get material?  I live in Renton, WA and work in Seattle, so onlinemetals is local, but sheet/plate steel seems kinda pricey (though i have no clue what it should cost) eg a 1/4" steel sheet 3'x2' is $107

Reply:Be sure to talk to any local steel suppliers and ask if they have a "drop" bin and if so, what they sell the drops for.My two local suppliers sell the steel drops for .60 cents and the other a $1.00 per pound. I generally don't get the exact size of tube or plate that I'm looking for, but I find what works which is normally fine for personal projects and practice.Also, when shopping for steel, even if they don't have drops for you, here in Indy, the price per foot for a full length of sheet/tube/bar is generally similar to the regular of about 1/2 to 2/3 of the sheet/tube/bar.So, if a full length of tube is 20 feet, I can normally buy the full length of 20 feet for about the same as the cost of buying 13 or so feet at the regular per foot price. Reply:I just checked out Everett steel apparently you have to get a quote on everything, which is kind of annoying.  I also spoke with online metals last week and they told me their end cuts/scraps get grabbed up quite fast but i may take a look myself anyway.
