ive recently switched over to mig from fluxcore and have had a weird thing happen a couple times everything is fine then i go to do another weld and i get a crap weld with no gas for a second or so then try again and back to normal it happened like three times im almost positive there couldn't have been any kind of kink could my gas bottle have an air bubble or something or you think maybe it could be the cheap regulator that came with the machine ?350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:The Powermig? I imagine that it sounds more like a solenoid problem, than the tank or regulator.City of L.A. Reply:You have a leak.Do a quick pull of the trigger before you start the weld snip the excess wire and start the weld.
Reply:What type of gas? co2 or argon mix. co2 will freeze the cheap regulators and cause gas flow problems. You can buy a heater or a better regulator. Make sure your gun is pushed into the gun block all the way and the o-rings are not cracked. Check your gas hose from the regulator to the gas valve. the gas valve and the hose to the gun block for leaks. use soapy water and look for bubbles. There will be some gas coming out where the wire enters the gun. this is normal.
Reply:One of my QGuns has an issue with the gas flow when I hold the gun at a sharp angle with the lead coming into the gun handle. I will get porosity with that gun if I weld with it at that crunched up angle with solid wire and gas. Rather than take it apart and figure it out, I just moved that gun over to one of my machines that I use with self shield fluxcore wire only, so no gas issues. Some day I might mess with it, but so far, I haven't had a need to. I know it was the Q300 that originally came with the 350P, but now I'm not sure I remember which machine I put it on... hmm....MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:running c02 argon im thinking maybe it has something to do with a certain gun angle weird thing is its only happened a couple times i was thinking if i had a leak or something similar it would happen more ofteni will have to check everything i plan on switching to a flow meter the meter that came with my machine is a harris but doesnt seem to be that great350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off

Reply:With any kind of MIG hiccup, suspect the gun liner. Remove your gun, take out the liner, and use an airgun with a conical rubber tip to direct compressed air through the liner backwards. If you get an impressive cloud of rust, it's time to order another liner, and you might be able to get away with using a blown-clean one just a little longer. Also check all of the consumable items on your MIG gun. Measure the wire diameter with a micrometer. Get out your reading glasses and doublecheck the size of your MIG tip - is it the right one? Finally, momentary weirdness on starting a MIG arc is often traced to a less-than-optimal ground clamp connection.metalmagpie(new to this forum)
Reply:Get one of these 400 amp ground clamps. Amazing how well they work. Way Way better than the cheap ground clamps that come with most mig welders. Allowed me to back off on my voltage a bit. Those cheap welding clamps often cause a lot of problems with arc start and skipping. I was having problems with wire hitting the work before the arc started and with this ground clamp, that problem vanished. Also, you said you were doing FCAW and switched to MIG. Check your tip holder where the gas holes are located. They may be blocked from all the flux and splatter that gets into the gun. I often FCAW outside in the wind and I found that using a mig nozzle when using flux core can cause splatter and flux to get into the gas holes. I found that a flux core nozzle solved that problem and I was not even aware that a flux core nozzle was available until I saw one at Tractor Supply. Reply:on my lincoln mig it says to take the nozzle off completly and to switch the polarity. but yea with the ground clamp i also have a diffrent one then the cheap one that came with the machine but mine looks more like this does the fact that its copper make a diffrence
Reply:i have switched to a better ground clamp which helps i did mostly use it with flux before so may need to blow out the line350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off |
