I have a MM 252. Most of my welding will be carbon steel 3/16 and under in thickness.Should I use .030 or.035 wire? Which gas would work better, C25 or Stargon VS?Of the above, which would result in the best penetration? Thanks,Jack
Reply:I perfer .035 with 75/25, 100% c02 will give you alittle more penetration. But you got plently of power with that machine for 3/16'' or less.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:If the majority of your welding is 3/16" and under, I would go with the .030. And 75/25 AR/CO2 will be fine."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I do a wide range of materials but mostly around the 1/8". I use .030 and 75/25. I found that the .035 works great even down to 16 gauge but you don't get nearly as smooth as a sound and feel going as you do with the .030 wire. I have tested both up to 1/2" and it seems they are both rough after the 1/4" thick mark and most of time I spray with 85/15 above that anyway. The .035 definately does deposit more material though so if you run into any production stuff then I would definately go that route. I have never noticed any difference in penetration exept maybe on really thin stuff the .030 wins but barely if at all. Also i was going to completely switch over to the 85/15 mix but once again the sound and feel just isn't there as with the 75/25 mix. It really all comes down to personal preference I guess. Pick up an 8" spool of each size and do some testing.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week
