hey guys im building my second trailer. The specs are:- Has to be able to be towed by a Toyota Echo so a towing capacity of about 300kg.- Has to tow one dirt bike, 20 litres of fuel, Jockey wheel, and a ramp.- Has to be weather proof.- Compact so that it can be stored in MY parents garage without taking too much space. Its being built from a torsion axle i bought from ebay for $100 with two wheels included. The top plate will be aluminum to save weight and led lights. Not sure if ill stick with the google sketch for the lights. will see. With those consideration hear it is...... ( Dont hold your breath is because i have school exams so little time to stick it together). Attached ImagesLast edited by nerdstar; 11-03-2011 at 01:40 AM.
Reply:please note the pointed front end of the trailer is solely for aesthetics lol
Reply:How will the tongue be connected to the frame? IE a pic of the bottom of the sketch up please. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:You made me go outside. Im also working to the constraints of the torsion axle. it has a receiver of a 89mm rhs. so i bought a 89x89x4mm rhs to weld into it. I didnt google sketch it because i cbf, but all the lengths in the drawing line up with the sections welded to the torsion axle. Attached Images
Reply:You may want to rethink the jerry can behind the tire. seems like a perfect rock target for me. If there is room. I'd put it in front of the tire. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:thanks thorshammer, but on my last trailer it doesnt get in the way because of the mudguard protecting it, however i think ill place it on top of the aluminum plate as the trailer has nice clean finishes. Attached Images
Reply:with the first trailer i also put the fuel cans behind the rear axle for the constraint of weight distribution. i made it so the tow bar only had a 25kg load. which complies with the vehicles manufacturer specifications. for you Americans you can appreciate it was for a LS1 engine.
Reply:If space is a critical you may want to consider a break-away tongue.  I built this trailer with a break-away and we are very satisfied.  Saves when space is a premium. Reply:The breakaway tongue sounds like a complicated and possibly dangerous way to save a whopping 20 inches of stickout.  The 'breakaway' name sounds appropriate.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:agreed i had a 7000lb ski boat that sat on a trailer with a break away tongue.  Worked perfect, and the fact that the tongue folded up made it so i could fit it in the garage so i didnt have to have it out in the weather.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:looks good!..i have been doing some painting maintenance on  my 16' car trailer and i am always amazed on how  simple the construction is on these things....just basic big *** angle iron nicely welded up.bobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder
Reply:i agree its basic, however when you start making it yourself it does become quite technical as you customise to suit your needs.Im also amazed how trailers differ between America and Australia, from research so many American trailers are made from angle iron were here in Australia seems to all be RHS.
