Well I have been doing endless research looking for what I think will best fit my needs in the Tig Dept. I have done some welding a long time ago ARC and got pretty good at it. My reason for wanting a Tig unit is I do Motorcycle restoration and repairs. just looking for a good unit that can do some light repairs on AL as well as steel. I wont be trying to build frames are anything like that, I know my limits, and would not even try such a task with that kind of liability. Ok on to my basic question, I have kinda narrowed down between 2 different Miller units. I have looked at some of the Lincolns, but there website does not give much info on the units or at least I can decipher easily. Syncrowave 200 or the Syncrowave 250, or the DX models of these. Everyhting I have read says buy more than you need then when the occasional project arises you can do it instead of saying no. I considered the Dynasty 200DX, but think it may just be way over kill for my needs. Also I am looking for used instead of the China made brands because of Parts availability and support. I have seen many Syncrowaves out there that are really old and still rocking along. Most are upgraded because of needing more power or course of business has changed. I have read very few failure reports of these very solid units. So am I thinking in the right direction or am I totally off base with the 2 units I am considering. Thanks for any helpTodd
Reply:Man, I just bought a new Syncrowave 200 and I couldnt be happier.I am a Journeyman Boilermaker, so I am not new to welding, however I am new to Aluminum welding, and I already have a pretty good handle on it. The Syncrowave made it easy as pie.

Reply:Both of those would be excelent choices. The Sync 200 will top out roughly at 3/16 alum, though 1/4" is possible with the right prep, but you'll have the machine maxed out and need a water cooled torch. I got the sync 200 and sometimes doing thicker alum wished I had the extra amps of the 250 as well as the water cooled torch. If you do 1/8" and under both will easily do what you want. The Dynasty is a great machine. If I needed a portable machine thats the way I'd have one. I couldn't justify the 2x the cost however at that time. If I luck into a deal on one however I'll grab it in a minute..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:No consideration for the Thermal Arc 185, it does have some of the features that the Dynasty 200dx has.

Reply:Be patient, and keep your eyes peeled. As for a Lincoln to add to the list, the Precision Tig 185/ 200 is the equivalent to the syncro. I'd keep the mind open to the TA and HTP units also. Very good machines. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:it's hard to go wrong with a used syncro and they are plentiful. I probably would have bought one if I didn't have a dynasty fall into my lap for a good price. I also think you should take a look at the Lincoln precision tig, Those machines are great at low amperage and have good range.
Reply:I personally would at least get a 250 amp machine. You can always turn it down. Just like ammo it is better to have too much then not enough.
Reply:Call Larry at Applied equipent in Dallashe has lots of good used miller welding machines
