I have been really getting back into welding lately and noticed the price of steel has gone up a lot an dit has kept me from getting the welding fix I  have been looking forI used to get remnants at 25 cents a pound not its 69 centsA 20ft length of 1"x1"x.120" used to cost me around $20, now its $40But I probably don't need to tell you guys thisSo I have been following CL looking to get some materials, no deals so I waited some more and today I found a deal$60 for 1500 or so pounds of scrap steel (weighed it at the dump for grins) hardly any rust, just a little rebar,$40 for the welding table that the vice is on (has really nice casters)$40 for the 5" olympia vice (not the best deal but it was a package thing)$20 for assorted vice grips $50 for the heavy 3/4" topped tableWhat do you guys think? Reply:My dad brings back steel all the time; he hauls heavy machinery/equipment and most of the steel they use to temporarily hold in place until he delivers it,then it's given to him....so I get c channel, flat, square tubing etc all the time. The problem is its usually bent or twisted, and I have to straighten it before I can use it. He brought back a 8'x30' rectangular frame made out of 1/4'' wall 6'' square tubing, used to move a large pump on.... The next big decision now is what project to make out of all the other steel pieces. Will it all go into one or many? Could be a lot of new threads come out of that pile.

Reply:Turns out the bottom plate is 1 1/4" and the top is 1", no wonder its so damn heavyMy guess is around 800lbs its 2ft by 4ft or soThe bottom isn't warped near as bad so I flipped it over cut off the wheels and started sanding the surfaceAny suggestions on what I should use it for?
