Gator shield.?

Got some small square tubing coming in that has "Gator Shield" on it. Is this stuff the same/similar to galvanized with it's welding concerns.? Couldn't find much online about it.  Thanks for any helpful info..    d:^)  Schneeks..ESAB 161 LTSCommunicate & adapt, diggit.?ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
Reply:You have to weld CLEAN metal not some kind of crap. CLEAN METAL.IF it is galvanized you better wear you mask and drink a lot of milk.If it is a galvanized fence, drink milk and use 6011 electrodes.There are MIG wires made just for galvanized metal. WEAR YOUR MASK.If is powder coat made to look like galvanized you have to grind it off before welding.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:So then are you guys saying that "Gator Shield" is the same as galvanized.?  I may not even be doing any welding on the stuff. We're cutting out a section of it to make an outdoor storage box. Just wanted to check and see if anyone had any experience with this stuff in case we did decide to modify the frame. It's not even in the yard yet. No need to get excited.   That's why I'm checking ahead of time. Farmall- Cute.  But I'm not that big of an idiot. I googled it. Just didn't find much so that's why I posted here. After the first few links that are mostly ads/propoganda, there's not much more said about the coating itself. That said, after doing some digging at one of the tubing mfg sites, I did come across this little video about welding Gator Shield. Might be interesting to watch since they're claiming it's pretty safe if ya don't stick yer head in the fumes all day.   My friends I'm getting the metal from weld it almost daily with flux core and no ill effects.Their work area is well ventilated.WM- I'll check on those filters and a respirator. Can't hurt to err on the side of caution concerning questionable schtuff.. Thanx.!!   Donald- I was plannin on giving it a good cleaning before any heating went on. Reply:Just a safety note on "metal fume fever".If you feel sick, do not drink milk and go back to welding.The only thing milk does is mask the symptoms, it does nothing to prevent or treat poisoning.
