I go on a few hunting trips a year, and me and the wife would love to have a camper to camp in the spring and summer. We have been looking at used pop ups are are just waiting ont he right deal. i would like to extend the front of the trailer a few feet, just enough to load a hond 300 atv on the front, as well as possibly extend the back to haul a few coolers on. i go to colorado elk hunting and this set up could be very handy. has anyone ever done this? i know i will probably have to do an axle upgrade, and relocation. and probably beef up the trailer frame a little. they make factory units like this, but im not spending that much $$$ for one.
Reply:At that point i would cut the axles off the pop up and mount it on a tandem axle flatbed.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I am for dualies idea. The frame of a popup camper is super thin tubing. The off road rated ones with a toy hauler option have heavy tube or channel frames to prevent the now longer trailer from flexing and bending the roof when its folded up.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:I looked at a pop up camper with heavier axle, offroad tires and cargo platform ahead of the camper body. My only concern with the stock unit was that it put extra weight on the front of the trailer, adding to the load on the hitch. We were looking for something to camp with and haul our two street motorcycles and it would have been overloaded. A smaller ATV might be less of an issue though..."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge.
