Reply:I think I posted this before, but I used my two stage compressor's 1/2 inch outlet and a rubber hose to a dual coil of 3/8 inch copper tee. the tee fed two 50ft coils of copper tubing. Then I teed it back to 1/2 inch. I put that set of coils into a plastic bin and dumped ice over it, then some water to eliminate air on the coil. Water exchanges heat better than air. Then it feeds to a standard water/coalescer where the condensate just pours out of the air. From there I have it feed my dessicant tank. Then it feeds to my motorgaurd filter. I am pretty sure that, based on my results, I have some decently dry air. I use it to feed my plasma and blasting cabinet. i dont use an oiler for air tools. i manually oil.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Digging up an older thread here: Assasin works, do you have any pictures or can you describe in detail how you incorporated the screens to keep media out of your air line? I would like to build of of these but couldnt tell how you got a screen behind those fittings. ThanksSafety 3rdGump

Reply:I used an air dryer off a semi. Its a Bendix AD-9 and its after an in line coalescing filter. After the AD-9 the air goes into a Motor guard mounted on my Hypertherm Powermax 85.I tested the AD-9 to see if it would flow enough air for the whole shop but it was not enough. It has enough for the plasma though.I put a valve from supply to governor port so I can make it sneeze out moisture just like on a truck.Cartridges cost about 20 dollars here in Canada exchange but I plan on baking it at 225 degrees. The air pressure on heavy trucks max out at 130 psi so a regulator may be needed if you have more pressure than that.

Reply:Are those the chips that come in "Damp Rid" canisters? That stuff is calcium chloride, and you really do not want to use that in such an air dryer. The chance of some mist making it through and severely corroding everything in its path downstream is pretty good.

Reply:so you just drilled & tapped holes in the oxy cylinder? I thought they were fairly thin, wouldn't have thought you could trust that at 200 psi... Also, you funnel in the dessicant through the top? Seems like a small hole, does it go pretty fast? Nice build though.Miller XMT304 CC/CVBernard TIG coolerSSC foot pedal"It's a poor craftsman who blames his tewls toles TOOLS" (!^$#% keyboard)
Reply:A guy I used to work with used an 8' stick of copper/aluminum fin tube from a baseboard heater on the compressor intake with the air filter at the far end which was also down hill. The air would be cooled as it ran up the tube and vapor would condense out of the air and drip out the end so not much made it into the compressor in the first place.~Alex

Reply:What do you guys think of a small sandblasting pot to build a desiccant dryer,it's already got the air inlet and air outlet with regulator plus fill hole for desiccant? any tips please
