I bought a hand amptrol remote tig unit a few months ago which was made by CK world wide for $175http://www.arc-zone.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=2363I took it apart today, just to see how it works. And oh my gosh it is simple! It has 5 wires in a shielded cable. The cable goes from the Tig Welding Machine PT275 to the torch. There's no resistors or capacitors in the connecting end of the cable. This is what the end of the cable looks like:The silver left side end has the east west knob that turns your tig torch on and off. I measured the potentiometers range with a multimeter and it is your typical 0 to 10k Ohms. The only thing special about this particular potentionmeter is it has a rotary switch built into it.It is made by this companyhttp://www.vishay.com/docs/57040/148149.pdfpage 3 of the pdf. not sure if they will sell it , but it is easy to just buy a $4 on/off micro switch from here:http://www.mcmaster.com/#micro-switches/=o0dvpfand a $13 potentiometerhttp://www.mcmaster.com/#speed-pots/=o0dzqsthe compact "B" type with only one turn might work for $13You can get potentiometers a LOT cheaper, but sometimes it's nice to get all your shopping done at one place. Those two pieces will do the same. You'll also need some 5 strand shielded wire about $20 if you get 15 feet:http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-el...l-wire/=o0e287You only need 22 wire gauge, but the thicker 18 gauge won't hurt anyoneAnd some epoxy plumbers putty to keep the switch and potentiometer on your tig torch available at lowes/HD.I'll post the pin out on the machine end latter if people are interestedBasically there are five wires.two of them are the on/off switch, and the polarity shouldn't matterThe other 3 are the potentiometer, their order does matter, but if you screw it up it's not a big deal you basically have 3 outcomes1. low to high amperage is the correct wiring2. always high3. always lowSo if you are not an electrical genius, don't worry. And lastly you will need to hack your exsisting cable and add a new 5 pin connector on it search ebay for 20mm 5 pin electrical connectorhttp://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...+20mm&_sacat=0so with some tinkering and less than $50 it's pretty easy.

Reply:Uhhh-mazing information!!!!Thank you very much for this. I have been thinking of a bump switch/ ramp up/ ramp down assembly for my torch itself for welding pipe. You are putting me in the right direction. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Something similar of the Miller (14 pin) variety would certainly peak my interest.Late to bed, and early to rise. Fish like hell so I don't have to make up lies. Syncrowave 200MM211 & Spoolmate 100
