Hi -- I was hoping someone could help me.  My dad passed away a month ago, and I am in the process of selling some of his tools.  Unfortunately, I didn't take after my dad so I have no clue how much some of it is worth, and I was hoping someone could tell me how much I should ask for some of his tools.  He spent a lot of time restoring old cars (a 65 corvette, a Triumph TR6, an MGTC, even a Farmall Cub tractor, etc.).  He has a few different welders.  Hopefully the pictures come through.  He has an Airco 150 DC Heliwelder.  I don't even know what it really is (aside from a welder) let alone how much I should ask for it.  Can someone tell me what I should list it for on Craigs List or eBay?  Thank you in advance for your help.James Attached Images
Reply:Look around on Craigslist and eBay and see what these are selling for. I have seen them for as little as $400 but no telling what was wrong with them.  You version is one of the smaller ones I have seen.Basically, it is a 150amp DC Tig welder also capable of stick welding.  That means Tungsten Inert Gas (or known as GTAW Gas tungsten Arc Welding).  It supplies heat to the weld material through the tungsten rod that is in the torch handle.  You manually feed filler rod to the weld puddle.  Since it is DC it is for welding steel and stainless steel.  Welding aluminum would require a High Frequency AC unit as this unit alone is not capable of AC welding output. Its a nice looking rig though and I wish I could have found one of those when I was looking for a welder.Last edited by MWalden; 07-25-2013 at 09:40 PM.
Reply:Thank you for your help.  I've been looking around Ebay and Craigslist but couldn't find anything similar.  So, I just listed it on Ebay with a starting bid of $400 per your  comment (http://www.ebay.com/itm/161084298956...84.m1555.l2649)Thanks again!
Reply:I'm guessing $500 on craigslist should be good...  Looks like a nice setup.

Reply:IT has a foot pedal ....that is very good.Possibly a scratch start tig. Looks like DC only. But very useful. That is a beautiful cart your dad built.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:I used to see 3 phase AIRCO power supplys designed and used for small Electron Beam Gun power supply,s. They were approximately 3ft tall x 4 x4 feet and mostly transformer. All controls remote. Now I see AIRCO welders coveted by weldors. I think they made MILLER power supplys. CantWeld, I would ask for more if that was mine but then I wouldnt sell it.On a side note; other than AIRCO, I saw TEMESCAL power supplies used for EB Guns. http://www.temescal.net/I wonder if they make a welder power supply.
Reply:I vote you find some one to teach you how to tig and keep the machine.Miller Dynasty 200DXMiller Spectrum 250DMiller Millermatic 200Bunch of old blue dinosaurs....

Reply:probably good for smaller type jobs due to the amperage, my cousins brother in law had something very similar but you had to watch that duty cycle on there otherwise it'd overheat the machine.
