Wow that title took a bit of thought to avoid all the a$$ puns...Anyhow, hobby welder here, and trying to figure out what to to use when cleaning steel with acetone that won't leave lint of some sort behind.I've tried rags, high end paper towels, my wife's face cleansing pads, and everything I use leaves lint behind.Since this is a hobby, it seems like it could take forever using trial and error to get an answer to what should be a simple question, and I couldn't find any threads where someone else had asked, so...What do you use to wipe your steel with acetone that does NOT leave some sort of lint behind? Thanks,BillLincoln v155-s with Tig Welder Ready Pack K2606-1One father's love of his autistic son www.inmyimage.com

Reply:Mike's probably right about the t-shirts; I'm still learning about welding but this question's kind of up my alley. Lens cloth we use for camera lenses. They're completely non-abrasive character is why we use them but they also leave no foreign particles behind for obvious reasons. Also, there's automotive tack rags. They're used to finish-wipe car finishes prior to color coats because they too leave absolutely no foreign particles.
Reply:just get the towel 'wet' so that it does not become dry and leave fibres. In other words, be generous with the acetone, because it dries into the towel/dissipates really quickly and the towel ends up dried out which leaves fibres. You can also 'pat' down the metal once normal cleaning is done
