I have this piece i have been trying to repair. I was originaly told it was cast bronze with chrome coating. After removing the chrome the peice seemed grey. I have tried tig with sil bronze,  A/O braze, pre heating + post heating and keep getting spider web cracks? It is somewhat ductile having bent cold 90 degrees without completely cracking. Any suggustions would be great. this is a somewhat irreplacable part that will be getting re-chromed
Reply:Cold bending 90 would be very ductile??? Can you post up a pic of the part and maybe a closeup of the cracking?Matt
Reply:This piece is flat. When it was given to me to repair it was bent in a perfect 90 like a piece of angle iron. Its only about an 1/8 thick. I  flattened it out with a hammer with out heating first. It bent about as easily as mild steel. When I tried tig welding it it almost seemed like pot metal. My camera wont take a more detailed picture. There are more smaller cracks than the ones I circled Attached Images
Reply:It may be grey looking because it is leaded bronze or some pre-plating may have been left.Someone may drop by with some bronze tips and be of more help. Without some help I'd take it to a jeweler who can sort the bronze type and prolly repair it for you cheaper than you think.Matt
Reply:I wound up going to a local foundry and getting a new bronze piece cast. $50 later everyone is happy
