I built a bunch of these the other day. 150 amps. Just a finger switch. 70% 150 hertz (would normally be higher but I didn't want to annoy the neighbors)  orange 3/32" (i've started blunting the $hit out of them with good results compared). I didn't wire brush or use acetone. cut them with a lot of wax. I used a belt grinder(aluminum oxide) with wax to make my miters perfect, as well as beveling and deburring the edges. I made about 60 of these.  I'm still looking for that tropical paradise job..... all I need is enough money for a decent place to stay and beer (for 2). Anyone? No?  www.performancealuminumfabrication.com
Reply:Repetition is good practice. They look nice. Good on ya for being a considerate neighbor.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Very nice consistent work Travis.
Reply:Sweet, like soldiers on parade.
Reply:Very nice! What machine?
Reply:Some day, some day!    Very nice, I don't really think I could ever do that but will strive to be the best I can!AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and  Do all C-4 band saw ,  Always adding.
Reply:I hate to burst your bubble but the corner craters are a no no...Pic 2 shows it real good and the next pic has them all lined up in a row..Other than that...Work on your corners and then you have it!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:In that application, it will tear before that weld fails
Reply:^ That and at least they aren't pinhole craters.
Reply:Did anyone else see the black cat tail in one of those pics. Of course not because everyone's looking at those beautiful welds. P.s. they look better than Zapsters. Too bad about the craters.
Reply:Yep its a cat tail, good eye.  Where is the crater? Im always working on my stops. I intentionally posted a close up of that stop (pic 2) because i thought that was a good exam of a nice stop and how 99% of my stops look. I knew people were going to scream crater anyways. It seems like anytime anyone posts a picture of an aluminum stop, everyone calls it a crater. If thats what you call a crater then i don't know what a good stop looks like. I personally do not consider any of my stops craters.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com

Reply:Originally Posted by shovelonTravis, that it masterful work. What Zap is referring to is the foamy white divot in the center of termination. That crater will catch penetrant if the customer specs the job for inspection. You can eliminate those if you do a circular movement while backing off the current until extinguished.Aside that, they look nice, but it would be nice to see some welds using 5356 filler. Some day your customer will have the structures anodized and you don't want the welds ugly. If you do used 5356 those craters will tend to turn into cracks. Not sure, but isn't naphtha the solvent for wax?Again, nice work.
Reply:There is nothing concave about that stop( and i think a little concave is expectable. The frost is because on the termination of the arc i get a slight dust of of Electrode positive. Thats it. just like the rest of the weld because i decided to pause in between dabs and i got a little EP in the bead. I can go full on shinny with a consistent travel speed If i want (harder to remain consistent)... But i have never seen anyone ever stop without the EP showing up a little on the last step. I would like to see a pic of a perfect stop....... Im not trying to stir anything up but i posted that pic knowing someone was going to say it was a crater and i have seen people get ripped in the past on good stops. Its like anytime anyone sees a stop its always a crater. I even called out for a pic of the perfect stop and was given a pic of a good stop, but people still said it had a crater. I don't know what 5356 has to do with this but these are never going to be anodized nor would I choose 5356 just for the off chance someone would decide to anodize something in the future.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com
Reply:Very nice repetition and good consistent Travis. It's a  good practice. Well done!Log Splitter Ireland
