This is a spot to show off a tool or device that makes your life a little better. It can be any tool, machine, or device that you consider appropriate. The only stipulation is restrict posts to one tool once a day, so people have time to keep up with them and not run out of tools as fast.My first entry is a little C-clamp I have from my Ironworking days. It will move mountains an inch or so at a time. Attached ImagesMiller 250DXTD Cutmaster 100Duct TapeBFH

Reply:I have one to keep hand rail from warping so much when you are welding an upright right in the middle.I think I saw a simular tool on this board a few years ago. It works pretty slick.-Mike Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:thats a really useful looking tool you got there brainfarth. was it hard to modify the clamp to be like that?http://datingsidorsingel.com/
Reply:This is a 16 ton HF pipe bender I modified into a press brake. I will bend 1/4" up to 10" wide. Attached Images

Reply:We had one that looked like a big skeleton key. Used it to "adjust" door hinges. Nice tool.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Don't know how cool this one is, but it's something I use quite often when steel is being stubborn and won't do what I want/need it to do... If the BFH won't get it done, then I use this baby.... Comes in VERY handy sometimes. Here she is at use persuading some steel to get closer together... lolMy humble submission.GeneLast edited by GeneL74; 08-08-2007 at 11:33 PM.

Reply:Here it is:Attachment 11777Chop saw - 20"blade with 20hp motorThe coolest part of this saw, is that I can tell you about it!When moving this saw, I had pulled over the truck and was adjusting the tie downs. I paused to watch a mustang really crankin' it on. When the driver grabbed a gear, he lost it! The mustang crossed the center line and piled into the front of my stopped flatbed; pushing it backwards. As the mustang was bailing into my truck; I just knew I was gonna get it! I didn't know if it would be by the mustang, the truck, or, the saw. The open passenger door acted like a scoop, trapping me, yet protecting me. Fortunately no one was injured. Wiped out both vehicles and dropped the saw.Every time I use it, I can't help but think of that day.Last edited by denrep; 02-12-2009 at 01:53 AM.
Reply:My submission:This is a camshaft sprocket holding tool for a Subaru, I made it because the factory tool costs over $500. works like a champ. Holds the pulley by grabbing onto the 12 point hub and you can stick a 10mm allen bit in through the 3/4" square drive hole to break the bolt loose.Don't talk about it, Just do it!
Reply:The socket looks so clean I bet you could market it on Ebay for a good piece of change.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.actually The socket is brand new from Harbor Freight. I bought a whole set of "wombo sized" sockets there for cheaper than one socket I could find anywhere else.Don't talk about it, Just do it!
Reply:Hope you all dont mind me bringing this back up, but I got plans to build this tube bender. I got the 1.75" tube die and then I got a harbor freight hydro/air ram to bend with. I had to modify it a bit to make it work for mine, but it bends great. Plug it into air and watch the tube bend!

Reply:Often it seems like the best tool in my shop is the one I'm using at the moment, but this little 'bench dog', copied from the woodworkers, gets used almost every time I'm at the welding table.Once smack with a brass hammer and whatever is under the dog is held pretty securely to the bench top. One smack on the vertical side and it's loose. It also promotes a good ground when welding. Also it's not too particular about the shape of the object it's holding.John Attached Images

Reply:now THAT is intuitive. i have always thought of things to transfer from wood working to metal working like clamps, squares, tools, etc... but never thought of the bench dong. very nicely done.Later,Andy
Reply:Thanks all. I have three on my bench and I have used them all. They are just steel off of my scrap pile. I mostly cut them out with a 4 X 6 bandsaw. My saw isn't the Harbor Freight one, but it's very similar. Mine came from Montgomery Ward. Now that's old! (about 25 years old).I have a row of holes about 6 inches apart across the front edge of my welding table. I need to drill some more, further back. More holes will make some layouts easier. I probably ought to go nuts and drill a square matrix all over the table.I use these more than a welding finger, and I think the finger is a great tool.John
Reply:I am guessing from the pics1/2" round thru a 9/16 hole? Thanks for the great idea!
Reply:Ohmygosh - I can't believe I forgot the Weldingweb standard of measurement. Sorry! The shaft is 1/2 and the arm is made from 3/8. Attached Images
Reply:Sorry I wasn't more specific, but I was basically wondering about the size of the whole in the workbench. Obviously its slightly larger. Maybe a 16th or a 3/64ths of an inch bigger? Sorry for the seemingly neverending questions, but I just thought that these little differences would make a big difference in the way it locks down. I know I am a pain, why cant I just try it and see!
Reply:Mark, not a problem on my end. I couldn't remember, so I went out and measured. The hole and the shaft is nominally 1/2" My HF calipers say the shaft is .498 and the hole is .500. I don't remember if I wallowed the holes out with a file. I think they loosen up pretty quickly with use. I've been using these for a couple of years and they still hold tight.John
Reply:Thank you John. I am definantly going to build some of these benchdog thingamajigs.
Reply:Hey, I couldn't help but bring this back. I really liked some of the tools this brought out and thought I could wrangle in some more contributions. This is my latest. I bought this thing for $20 and all it needed was a cord. It is like new. Unbelievable. Cuts like a champ. Attached ImagesMiller 250DXTD Cutmaster 100Duct TapeBFH

Reply:I got a small portable band saw like that from grizzly and it came with a stand so you can use it like a chop saw. It was half the price of a floor standing unit and works awesome for cutting random pieces like I need.found a small pictureonly issue is the vice is cheesy and it doesn't cut too straight
Reply:looks like it still needs a cord//
