I have purchased a Dynasty 200 DX and I have a few questions on the TIG process. a) if I am welding 1/8 alum plate, what tungsten do I use? (zirconiated, lanthanated, ceriated, thoriated, pure....?) b) when do I use the pulse option? c) how do I set my AC balance, hertz, etc? d) I use a thumb control... would a foot pedal make learning TIG easier? e) how do I eliminate craters at the end of a bead? f) I have spent a lot of time low-temp lead soldering and high-temp silver brazing and oxy fuel welding.... is TIG a lot different? If anyone has the interest and time to help me out a little here, I would greatly appreciate it!Thanks.
Reply:you can go read on the miller website and get a start.once you can set the machineup right, very similar to oa welding...make a puddle, feed the puddle, move over and do it again..on a bench foot pedal is nice.. in position thumb may be easier...stay over the crater for a second or two, feed it a litrtle dab more to fill it up..
Reply:a) Use 2% Lanthanated. b) Later.c) 100Hz, 30% DCEP (cleaning)d) Yes. It is hard to move the thumb control and keep torch steady at the same time.e) You ramp the current down slowly at the end of the bead as you finish adding filler.f) I do not know. I would assume yes, but that your muscle memory of holding the torch and filler will help a bit. Again, I really don't know.Go over to youtube and watch Jody's welding videos; that will get you off to a good start.http://www.youtube.com/user/weldingtipsandtricksHere are two pages on his site that pertain to your question about tig/alum.http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...-aluminum.htmlhttp://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...-aluminum.html"Great spirits have always encountered violent oppostion from mediocre minds." -- Albert Einstein |
