I read several threads about this machine and i have had one over 19 years.  I think i am having problems with a machine that i was told last forever.   When i put my foot on footpedal there is  no fluxuation in the arc.   it comes on and is constant.  i think it is the reostat but not sure.   Was looking to get a new machine but seems everyone wants to sell me a syncrowave miller 200.   A friend i just met thinks that i am being taken for a ride and that i should not get such a large machine.    I only weld mild steel and some stainless.  he has a miller A /BP and wants 800.00 for it.   i have got all the wires so all i would need is the machine    Am thinking of getting it .    I am not very mechanically inclined and i would have to haul my machine down to phx to have it fixed.   any suggestions.   Hate to spend 2,000 for a synco. when i do not do aluminum.    I was thinking of getting his machine.  and maybe using my machine if i needed parts.    thanks
Reply:Steve (7A749) or one of the other guys here who works on the 330's will probably chime in on what you can look at on your machine a bit later. There's any number of guys here who use them and love them. $800 is on the higher side of what I've seen those machines running used. Usually I see them on CL for between $500-800 depending on condition and extras. The Syncro is a nice machine. Used they will set you back probably around $1300 or so though I've seen a few at $1000-1100. The Syncro 180's run $1000-1200 ish usually depending on condition. If I didn't need the AC for alum, I'd look at the Maxstar 150 or Maxstar 200's new. Smaller, lighter, 110v or 220v operation. May or may not save you some money depending on which model and what you can salvage as far as torch and so on from your existing machine. If the Maxstar 150 isn't enough machine and the Maxstar 200 is too expensive, then the Syncro 200 makes sense money wise even if you don't need the alum option. I'm guessing the 110v option and small size are not a primary need with the beast you have now..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:i was told by a tech in phx to turn off remote on top of machine and play with reostate which i did.   he thinks it is in the pedal.    i cked all the wiring  but want to know in footpedal   is the white wire on bottom or top of that reostat thing.    i am not electronics oriented   was going to switch the wires to see what happens   but not sure i should.    have not taken machine apart.    miller was out for a demo yesterday and pushing the inversion 185 but tech said it not for heavy welding.       thanks   i lost this page and have been rather busy
