baby gate/ doggie gate

I have been making gates for my puppies and for baby. I use 3/4 inch square steel tube, 0.063. I use 3/8 inch steel rod for the slats. Latest project was done for a work bud. I used a semi circle curve design. We welded brackets to the bottom to catch the wall on the left and the post on the right. To lock the gate i made a little latch of sorts. It is two bolts thru a piece of steel bar which fits into two holes in the right bracket. The iron work of the existing stairwell seems to match pretty well. Baby seems to like it. Reply:Glad you added the last pict. I was wondering how it was attached since I could see the top was "loose". Round newel posts like that are a PITA to attach things like that to. I've had a tough time in the past working out solutions for how to attach gates customers have bought to them. I like the look. I'll file it as a reminder for the next customer who needs something. Hopefully they'll ask before simply buying a cheap gate..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I had to re read that to understand the latch but that is smart and nice. I like the landing at the top of the stairs (makes stepping over easy) but is it possible for baby to figure out the latch? I guess time will tell. I guess a cable style bike lock would fix that if it happened too. Reply:Looks nice.  Are those stairs used very often?  Doesn't seem easy to open, especially if your holding the baby.  I have 5, yes 5, baby gates throughout my house.  One handed opening and closing is ideal.  Nice construction and design.
