This machine is a pain trying to dial in welding anodized aluminum.  I've been doing this a long time now and have used everything from syncrowaves precision tig dynasty 350 etc. My main workhorse is a syncrowave 350  and going back from a dynasty was a bit of a pain getting use to again. Now she's my baby. So I bought this 330 abp and it welds so so.  Welds ok on flat surfaces but when you try to use it up hill in position its totally different. I've messed with it quite a bit n got it to weld ok but not to It's potential. Puddle does a lot bouncing like it has to much gas but it don't. I've cleaned the points adjusted gap. I've literally tried everything. The arc @ start is weak and wonders a bit. If you were to turn your heat way up and gas that's how this thing acts when welding. WHAT AM I MISSING OR OVER LOOKING ??? It's making me crazy
Reply:what kind of tungsten are you using? i use 2% lanthanated.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:Under the panel there is a HI Freq. knob..What is it set at?Check post #9 in this thread..http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...highlight=FreqThose are what I have for settings.. 3'RD pic is the knob under the panel.....zap!Last edited by zapster; 04-09-2011 at 12:35 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Given the information provided by the OP, it's impossible to help.  He's really told us nothing except his 330 doesn't weld very well. Are you trying to "bump weld" the anodized aluminum?Settings, tungsten, amps, on/off switch, etc, would help.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I've tried ceriated and pure. High Freq. Knob I started @ 5 and eventualy worked up to max a little @ a time. Each dime is triggered. @ the end of the day I haven't used one of the oldschool machines since I first started building towers n that was over 15 yrs ago but I do know the littlest thigh off will throw her out of whack. If you go really slow n turn your heat down the welds aren't that bad. It just takes a lot of effort. I'm more or less wanting opinions from past experiences from this machine.
Reply:If you're turning the heat down and going slow with anodized aluminum, you're already SOL.You say you've been building towers for 15 years.  Nothing in your post would indicate that to me.Either you're a spammer just taking up band width or you really do have a problem.  If that's the case, then post up some settings so others can help you out.  At this point all I've seen is bs.There are several of us on the forum that are familar with the operation of the 330 A B/P, but none of us are mindreaders, we're welders.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Or you could do what I did. I got tired of throwing money at mine, so I put it in the very back of the barn, and went out and bought a Dynasty. 330s are a fantastic SMAW machine with 7018, but they're barely on the same planet as a Dynasty when it comes to GTAW!Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:CEP,LOLOn one hand I agree with you, but on the other, many excellent tig welds were done on anodized material using a 330 A B/P.Heck, the settings I use on a Dynasty 300 (a buddy's machine) are not that far off what I can do on the Syncrowave 250.  Just use a little higher frequency than the Sync produces. As far as the OP, if I was setting up for tig welding anodized on a 330, I'd set my amps at 200, flow at 20CFH, use an on/off button, 1/8" pure tungsten (balled), and go for it.  Not much else to worry about on a 330.  (balance is not an issue here)OP seems to be having trouble communicating.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I guess my point was, those machines are old and getting harder to get parts for. Ever since I posted earlier I've been trying to remember how the repair shop fixed mine when I lost the high freq. It was about 10 years ago, and for the life of me I can't remember! I do remember the shop had to get creative with parts from another model, then it was one thing after another with the old girl for about 5 years. Around these parts about the best you'll get for one is $500.00 I can't bring myself to let her go for $500.00 so she sets in the back of the barn.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Just to clarify talk is cheap. I can't believe how many people out there are welders until they have to actually do it. I own my company and built tops and towers for Yellowfin, Andros,Midnight Express just to name a few. This isn't no furniture welder I'll guarantee you that much. If you ever want to throw down some welds I've got $1000.00 cash money I can do it faster, stronger, nicer. Sarasota Florida. So spammer don't think so and being full of it not even close.
