thinking about trying a auto helmet, which one would you get?
Reply:A lot of people will say the Harbor Freight one's work fine. But if you look a couple posts down, you will see that I am done buying HF helmets because the head gear always breaks on them. I have gone through 2 of them now. Two cheap helmets at $50-60 is the price of one decent that the head gear probably would not have broken on. I just picked up an ArcOne brand helmet. I really like the look of the Python series and it has 3 sensors instead of the typical two on the base line helmets. It looks like they put some time into their website which indicates to me that they are proud of their product. My helmet was $150 shipped, although I have not recieved it yet. I just ordered it tonight...Lincoln Precisoin Tig 1851980's Miller plasma cutter.Used to own...Hobart Tig Mate.
Reply:My HF worked, but like DiabolicZ said, the headgear REALLY sucks. I am not easy on them and I usually get my face right into the plume and get spatter all over. So I didn't want to spend alot. I tried this Huntsman/Jackson and it has very nice headgear and have not had any problems with it. I didn't get the variable, I just like shade 10. As of now, I will purchase another, when needed.http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...t/3023294.html"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I had two HF helmets recently that worked fine when I was on the AC setting but, while TIG welding steel on DC I was getting flashed bad. I finally got fed up and bought a brand new Miller Performance series. Im actually a little pissed at myself for not doing this sooner the difference is truly unbelievable. Not only that but I wanted something with a bit of a warranty. Attached Images

Reply:Speed glass 9100 xx a dread to weld with. Great head gear.Vinnie
Reply:Having an additional "fixed" setting adds versatility. My HF helmet is only auto, so I can't use it for grinding or gas welding. Most of the good ones have a "grinder" setting.
Reply:i thought more people would use auto helmets. thanks for the replies.
Reply:just ordered a Speedglas 9100x, can't wait to get it, reviews look good and has all the options I could ever wish for.
Reply:Someplace in the last 20 years I read that an automatic helmet will make you a better welder. In my limited experience I have found this to be personally relevant. I struck my first arc using a conventional helmet, and lerned enough to be considered a rank amature. I got my hands on an automatic helmet and the difference was something wonderful.I now own a Harbor Freight helmet, and have been pleased with my purchase.I use SMAW process exclusively.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:I just bought a Miller digital elite and I love it. Going from my $75 eastwood lid to this is a huge difference. It goes dark so much faster because it has 4 sensors. The headgear is much nicer too and it fits me really well.
Reply:Miller PerformanceSeries here also...resonably priced..165 180 shipped...make a deal with your local lws...has three sensors which allows very low amperage work...hope this helps....added the led light for extra illumination in dark areas Attached ImagesLast edited by donny; 04-04-2011 at 06:54 PM.Reason: better pic

Reply:10-4 on the reply that says you become a better welder with an auto darkening hood. I do a lot of production job shop welding and time is money......500 parts= 1000 hood flips with a auto hood you can easily cut that in half .......More money less time. GOOD WELDER!! Reply:I just got my ArcOne Python 4000 series. It has three sensors. Just tried it out today. I like it... It fits better than my HF helmet. It doesn't pull the short hairs on the back of my head. It doesn't look like it is going to break, and if it does, I can just get replacement headgear. At first I started welding and was getting flashed really bad. I didn't know what the hell was going on... Then I realized like most real helmets... you have to turn the damn thing ON. Anyways, I like it and I hope it works out for me for a long time. Can't see any immediate reason why it shouldn't though.Lincoln Precisoin Tig 1851980's Miller plasma cutter.Used to own...Hobart Tig Mate.
Reply:I have a chance to get one of two speedglas helmets A mdl. 900x for $100 or the mdl 9002x for $150.Being a noob to welding and using a HF blue design hood I would like to hear your thoughts on either
Reply:I had a $50 auto helmet, but after using a nice helmet my friend had, I went out and got my own. Went with a Radnor because it has the 4x4 viewing area which is great. It also has multiple sensors so you don't get flashed if you accidentally block a sensor while welding. Cheapest I could find was $240 and it looks cool and looking cool will definitely make you a better welder!http://www.prosafetysupplies.com/pro...d-Setting.html
Reply:moespeeds - that radnor helmet has some pretty impressive features. It's features & autodarkening filter have a striking resemblance to arcone's IX540V. (I'm guessing they're made by the same factory.)How do you like having the wide view?
Reply:i got a radnor for my son, when he first started welding.i thought it worked good for stick welding.but it did not last long . about 3 years.i replaced it with a passive lens.he still welds with it now.i think the lens speed is slower than more modern designs.thanks for answering.
Reply:Used ky 9100x tonight for the first time and love it. Tack mode is nice, torched with it, MIG and stick..cramped spaces with stick and had no problems. I like the side Windows as well, works nice, as the foreman and a lot of new guys I spot them and answer there questions a lot quicker than if they were to stand and wait for me to finish welding.
Reply:The headgear on broad huntsman will let the screw fallout that holds the adjuster nut. Otherwise it's not bad for the money. |
