Hey, I'm new on this forum... From Quebec, Canada... at 35 yrs I decide to take up welding... 37 now and I'm Finishing my High Pressure welding course and I'm just loving it!I just received my new Fibre metal Pipeliner welding hood... I just love it... the lightness of it... and the comfort of the headgear with the elastic band... just amazing... but there is one thing... is it just me or is the filter lens a B*tch to change??? I had to use a screwdriver to remove the inside plastic retainer clip... is that normal? or am I missing something?  Cheers!!
Reply:Why do you want to change it? just buy a couple hoods with different lenses ( they are cheap). Welcome and have fun. Remember to do searches before posting about stuff cause there is lots of useful stuff in the archives.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
Reply:I pull it out from the inside, never had a problem getting them out. I do have the worst luck with those plastic retaining clips breaking. I take the steel retaining clips out of old Jackson welding hoods and grind them down to fit in my Pipeliner. Reply:I don't think I'm rich enough to buy a new hood everytime I can't see through the clear protective lens...

Reply:I stick my fingers in the middle of the clip, top and bottom, on the inside and pull up. When replacing I stick one side in, and bend the clip in the middle, and install the other side, then press down. Oh they do break at times, but not all that often. Reply:thanks CEP I'll give it a try... the damn thing is ultra stiff... if it doesn'T work I think I'll just grind the two tabs on the bottom so I can just slide the thing up through the grooves on the sides...
Reply:I was having trouble with mine too, just got it a few weeks ago. I used some sandpaper and took a little off the ends of the clip and a little from the clip retainers in the hood.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:I pull off one corner at a time. Bottom left, snap... top left, snap.. and slide it out. Buy a gold lens, too. Maybe trim a bit off the bottom with some shears or a grinder and you're good to go.Trim too much off the bottom and you'll need to strap some leather on there to protect your neck.
Reply:Make sure you have a couple extra lens keepers in your tool box, the little plastic tabs break off after a while.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I had to use a screwdriver the first couple times I changed cover lenses on my pipeliner. After that, it lossened up and I can pop out one corner at a time with my fingers. As far as reinstallation goes: line everything up and apply even pressure to the center if the clip and it should click right in.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8
