So I am going to have to replace the chuck on the drill press I just bought. It is a Craftsman 113.213873. I thought it was ok, but I checked the runout today after I got a dial indicator and the runout was like .034! Anyways, I was finally able to get the chuck off the spindle and rechecked the runout on the spindle. It was only .002 ~ .003. Since this DP has a threaded locking collar I am looking at the Jacobs 34-33C. Found these three links and was wondering if there was any difference between them besides the price. What do you guys think?Sears: $64.59 + free shippinghttp://www.sears.com/jacobs-34-33c-h...88742000P#descZORO Tools: $83.12 + free shippinghttp://www.zorotools.com/g/00055321/...Fc9i7AodaWsAYQGrainger: $100.65 + the hassle of trying to order from Grainger http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/JAC...ll-Chuck-3L856Thanks for the help ,Brian

Reply:Grainger's prices always make me LOL. They don't want the business of us small time guys, and the pricing is a reflection of that.Hobart Stickmate LX235AC/160DCRanger 305GVictor 315 O/A rigHope to acquire in the next couple of years: Hypertherm PM45 and Dynasty 200DX

Reply:Originally Posted by musickbcI wish it would. The one I need has a threaded collar on it. Kind of a funky design and apparently Jacobs only makes ONE that will fit it. I think I found a NOS one online. We'll see. If not I can return it within 14 days. Thanks for tryin though. I like the impact sockets, just don't have an impact wrench or that much spare cash.

Reply:I bought a similar chuck, with the threaded sleeve (and Jacobs brand) to replace worn chuck jaws on an old Powermatic drill press. It came with a new key, and it was different than the original chuck key (hole for chuck key was a different diameter, if I recall correctly).I don't think my replacement Jacobs chuck was new old stock, though (or US made), but rather just good quality imported newer Jacobs branded version.
Reply:So my NOS Jacobs 34-33C came in today and it has a 33Taper on it. When I go to install it on the drill press it won't go. Doesn't slide up onto the spindle. Tried greasing it and everything. I have been told that this is the chuck to replace the threaded collar ones on the Crapsman DPs. The model# of my DP is 113.213873. Any help is appreciated. The old chuck is busted and has a visible wobble. Hoping that I didn't just was $450. |
