so i've been wanting to replace my damaged wore out starter and ground wires in my truck and replace the battery with one that is actually sized for it but the only thing holding me back was the missing battery tie down. i bought some terminals and had a bunch of wires left over from my audio days so i went to kragen and bought a universal tie down, i get home and the thing is such a piece of crap i decide to build a better one. had some 3/4" square that i bought to practice on and used that to make this:had to cut some of the square into angle because its sunday so i couldn't go buy any anyway. then i used some flat stock to box the ends.maybe simple but i'm proud of it haha
Reply:and i used the j-bolts from the kit i bought so the $5 didn't go to waste.
Reply:Nice job , that is a lot better than original.
Reply:Looks good. You even capped the ends... fancy.
Reply:Better than the bungee strap holding mine down If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:You just solved how we will tie down the battery on our old Ford 9N we are fixing up. Thanks for posting.GeezerPower Mig 255C185 TIGBlue 175 MIGRanger 8 Kohler 20HP1974 5K Lincoln/Wisconsin Powered (Cherry)Victor/Harris O/AK 487 Spool Gun
Reply:glad i could help.the truck has been running around with no tie down for years now not even a bungee lol. it actually has a very nice tray that keeps the battery from sliding off but the battery i put in now has the terminals reversed so the POS side is near the fender, i wasn't going to take any chances now.

Reply:ya the "nothing" i had holding mine down wasn't acceptable for the bigger battery i put in.
Reply:This is how all battery hold downs should be! Why should I have to cram my hand into some illegible space to change a battery or otherwise farmer stack extensions to get at that little elelehant of a nut that one cannot get a wrench on where a wingnut makes life easier?!!Nicely done!
Reply:thanks, i can't take all the credit. i worked as a toyota mechanic for 10 years so thats where i got the idea. that is how they're tie down are, minus the excessive use of 3/4" square tube lol. |
