Just like the title says... was wondering if structural welders were considered Ironworkers. On a side note (So I don't make two threads and clog up the forums) I welded this in class yesterday and this bead looked amazing too me... what do you guys think?compared to my beads from 8 months ago? (haven't been welding the whole 8 months, I just started school a couple weeks back)

Reply:I am an Ironworker welder. It's what I'm doing for a living right now. A journeyman Ironworker is not a welder and a journeyman welder is not an Ironworker. If you have both tickets however, that makes you much more valuable and will fetch you more work in the long run.
Reply:Not if your a piledriver, or a carpenter, or an opperator, or........depends on the wording of the local contract.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:If you look at (for example) the union apprenticeship programs, you'll see a lot of other things on the curriculum besides welding. Not that there aren't great welders in these fields. Some boilermakers will be the best combo welders you've ever seen. Some probably never welded before. That's how I see it, anyway.
