Hey everyone, I have been starting to get some side work building up for myself lately in my area. Right now I am limited to just working out of my garage that I rent with the limited equipment that I have. My intent is to keep business going to save up to buy a engine driven welder so I can do more portable jobs but currently I am getting more and more requests for off site work which requires a engine driven welder. So given my situation my question is does anyone know of a welding distributor that may let you finance equipment?FLASH ME.... I'm a welder
Reply:You could rent an engine drive unit as needed until it makes sense to really own one.  Or you could find a used Trailblazer for a couple of grand.  You can also rent leads as needed.  Dan D.
Reply:You should call some of the distributors and find out. How about the one you get your supplies from?Miller 252Miller Bobcat 225Lincoln MigPak 1801959 Hyster forkliftHarris OA torch

Reply:Do yourself and your wallet a favor and join a credit union. If Praxair or Linweld have a line of credit, I can assure you they will be more costly.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.

Reply:may be worth checking with the rental place too. maybe rent to own or something like that. I know the last couple welders that they bought at work, they rented until it just made more sense to just pay for.Being outside the oil belt, you might be able to steel a "sa200" cheep if you keep your eyes open.Bruce DeLaetHeavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder1948 SA-200 short hood1949 LincWelder 1801963 SA-200 red faceMiller S-32-P

Reply:One last thing.  Back in the 90s, our company leased lots of equipment.  For tax and government contracting reasons, we were not allowed to gain 'capital equipement'.  Basically we got a list of all the equipment we wanted, went out to get bids (best prices) and turned that list over to a leasing company.  They basically cut us a check and when it arrived we sent them all the serial numbers.   It was a 5 year lease - at the end of the lease they gave us an option to buy.  Turns out IT equipment isn't worth their weight in scrap so we simply upgraded everything at the end of the 5 years. Now, we negotiated the leasing rate - based on our companies credit worthiness - and we were a big company at the time (4000 employees).Just another option to consider. If I'm not mistaken, Miller offered some financing through a credit card at one point.  The problem is if you don't pay in time those tend to be the 20% credit cards. If you have a new enough vehicle, and its paid off, you can refinance it.  That can give you a big lump of cash - at 6% (or so) interest rate.  Secured loans are always the cheapest.  Note: if you ever have to deal with bankruptcy, the company holding the secured note gets the security first (they are first in line).Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
