D Ring, not DringI was wondering if anyone had plans for building these. They are the brackets that hang off the D rings on the top of the inside of metal shipping cargo containers and allow you to put boards across to add shelving. The ones I've seen generally are made with round stock and 1 1/2" square tubing. I need eight and prefer to make them in lieu of buy them. There pictured in the video below. I can prolly just figure it out based on the video, but I'd like to avoid the trial and error. Reply:Just tie in and make one. If you don't like the first one cut it apart and change it. Looks like a good way to avoid welding on the walls. I would weld the bottom tee on instead of the slip on they show. Dan D.
Reply:I was looking at modifying one yesterday, and I read "exterior: rubberized, Chlorinated, paint" It just got me wondering about the phosgene gas problems from chlorinated products. I realize a lot of people modify them with windows, roll up doors etc. The Marines build entire combat training cities out of them. Something to think about.
Reply:Nice idea, but I'd probably opt to use the double slotted adjustable shelf standards that Closetmaid sells for garage shelving instead. They are designed to hang from a top bracket already. I'd simply add a hook at the top and a provision for a T type brace at the bottom and be done with it. Yeah you'd burn off the powercoat or paint a bit, but the ability to have a djustable shelves would more than compensate for this. At worst set your new parts up to simply attach with bolts if you are super worried about fumes from welding on the coatings..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Anyone on joint design for welding a 1/2" round bar hook to the top of the 1-1/4" square tubing? Would I just slide the shank into the inside of the tube, line up, and then 6010 and 7018 it?TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:If you mean into the open end.I'd cut a square plate to fit the tube size, drill a hole for the rod, slide rod through the hole and weld from underneath. Then weld the square plate to the end of the tube.
