Well since I bought my new toys, I figured I'd run a test of the difference, if any, in between using a Gas lens vs not using one. The first two pictures are without it, the other 2 are with it. I was using 1/16" filler for both, both running the same flow rate (~10cfh), 2% Lanthanated tugsten (3/32"), both cups were #6, and both the exact same material.I can certainly say that it for one looks better, and two my puddle control was better with the Gas lens. Let me know your thoughts (Minus that I should probably be taking the scale off that tube ... ) Attached Images
Reply:Pretty hard to comment here as the photo angles and lighting are all different - factors that tend to dominate the results. If you say it workd better for you, then there you go - be happy.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:The beads look more defined with the gas lens..  the edges look cleaner also.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Here is a question, how do you know when to change the filter when using a gas lens?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:That's similar to my experience when I changed to a gas lens.  The arc seemed to be a little less twitchy...just seemed a bit more stable overall.I do prefer using a lens.
Reply:Gas lens definitely looks better.  Just spent a couple of days at an instructors workshop with Dan Klingman from Lincoln.  He was talking in depth about TIG using a gas lens
Reply:its the exact same lighting, and angles ate pretty close. I took all those pictures in the same area all within a minute.  Originally Posted by Rick VPretty hard to comment here as the photo angles and lighting are all different - factors that tend to dominate the results. If you say it workd better for you, then there you go - be happy.

Reply:As stated earlier with lights and all.. In my personal opinion I like to use a gas lense all the time, seems like sometime during the day I end up in a corner or tight spot where the shorter cups and the gas flow help with the GL. I run a couple more psi 12cfh. Alot can be gained by adjusting your machine if possible as well. Nice welds!  Opinions are like belly buttons everyone has one.
Reply:You know this begs the question... whatcha makin'?Placebo affect maybe?I've seen the smoke photos and it make a convincing argument for a gas lens but I've never used one.

Reply:I got a lens kit and I haven't even thought about removing it since then. Noticeable diff esp with aluminum. I was able to turn my gas down a good bit and still get the same level of shielding.
