We have all done things that are no where near the right way but circumstances tell you to give it a crack .And against all odds they work .An example :We use a lot of Diamond Core bits, The segments are brazed on . Im only set up to Mig and Tig ally and SS . When our bits are worn I ring up and get an exchange of a retipped one . Its very cost effective and the way its priced with setting up an Oxy and labour and materials Id never tip my own.This one day the boys ring up and a segment has come off one, not usually a drama as we have 3 or 4 of every size , but they had been slack in giving me back the worn ones off the Trucks and we were down to our last that size !!I grabbed it and with 316L filler DC - , and 100 % Ar Tigged it on.I dont know the composition of the matrix of the segment , the tubes are mild steel. The ugliest ,black, lumpy and pock marked weld you have ever seen ... Comtaminated the electrode terribly and quickly (2% thoriated)But amazing hung in there , not just for the day but till the tip was worn out !!!Anyone else out there with a story like that?A good guess is better than a bad measurement

Reply:stainless steel die on a beam punch.  Cast iron frame.  side of the holder splits out at 11:45PM with 3 holes left to punch.110M rods were the only thing laying out - fired up the SA250 and 'welded' the die ring in.  More like staked it in place with some of the ugliest blobs imaginable.  figured they would replace the frame the next day, held on for the 3 weeks that I kept working there and as far as I know may still be running now.When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.
Reply:boogered tha last piece of tungsten and  could not use the grinder, too late at night. ugly bead but has held up fine. this is an arrangement to keep the door partly open and let the cat get to his food and keep the dog out.. Attached Images

Reply:Was putting larger spreader bars in a chip wood semi trailer. Had to burn out the diameter of the hole to 1 3/4". Got down to the last 6 holes and ran completely out of oxy for the torch. Trailer had to leave out in the morning for a load, and it was 10pm on sunday night. Fired up the old buzz box and with my cousin standing right over my shoulder with a blow nozzle we "air arc" cut them. thats just one of countless many.
