Reply:To the best of my somewhat limited knowledge; the welding of Galvanized Steel is not illegal in the US, Mexico, or Canada. There are dangers that can be minimized if common sense precautions are taken.Last edited by nadogail; 05-29-2011 at 09:26 AM.Reason: syntaxI offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:Request a printed reference or Google it yourself or ask you national equivalent of our OSHA.Laws are printed, find the source whenever someone asserts that a law or regulation exists so you can be in compliance.
Reply:US Navy ships are built with *miles* of galvanized angle cut and welded on board to form engine room floor grating supports. So no way on earth is it illegal.A couple points about zinc: if you look at any multivitamin pill you will see zinc as one of the essential minerals. Zinc in your bloodstream is *not* a problem. Breathing zinc oxide into your lungs can give you slight flu-like symptoms which for most people are nearly 100% relieved by a simple glass of milk. You do *not* need to wear a fume mask if you have to weld galvanized. If you're worried about it (which I never do) just wear a simple dust mask. Some guys are absolutely terrified of welding galvanized steel. Now some idiot is spreading the rumor that it's illegal. Sheesh. What an absolute crock.metalmagpie |
