Im looking to buy a barebone miller 200dx soon.  I want to get into building bicycle frames eventually but I have plenty of hours of practice ahead of me before I even think about attempting it.  What I need help with is deciding on a good torch, foot pedal and flow meter setup..I saw the contractor tig kit but I think it would be better if I kinda built my own kit..let me know what you guys think! Thanks guys,Alex
Reply:What is your current welding skill/experience?  I am assumming fairly low on both.I find that the best and easiest way to learn TIG welding is to learn O/A welding.  It gives you the fundamentals of puddle control and a lot of the neccesarry muscle movements.  It's a heck of a lot cheaper since you will need a torch setup anyway.
Reply:I bought a Weldcraft WP20 watercooled with rubber lines. Don't buy the contractor kit, it has an air cooled torch. If you plan to weld around small diameter tubing, you will want the flexibility of a water cooled torch over an air cooled one. I actually bought a kit off weldfabulous that included the flowmeter, torch, tungsten/collet/cup, and torch adapter. It was $450.Get a pedal off e-bay. Just search for a RCFS-14. $150.Find a decent water cooler or build one. You can peice one together for less than $150.That being said, the Dynasty is the best machine hands down. Having a 200 and found it's limits makes me wish I had a 350. Some day I guess. You won't be disappointed with this machine.
Reply:Lots of personal preference I suppose on these three items.  Here's what I like for what I do, maybe it will give you some ideas to investigate:- CK20 watercooled torch- SSC foot pedal- Victor ball type reg/flowmeterI rarely buy kits of anything because usually something in the kit is not exactly what I want, and sometimes you pay for stuff you won't need or use.Dynasty 200DXBobcat 250, TD Cutmaster 38 Hobart Stickmate AC/DC LXHobart 210 Mig / SpoolgunCentury Mig, O/A rigPress/Ring Roller/Tubing Roller/Hyd. Pipe BenderJD2 Notcher/IR 80gal 5hp compressorportaband/chopsaw/grinders/etc.
Reply:I have already practiced oxy fuel welding at work quite a few times and got pretty decent so I can control a puddle.. I am trying to stick with an aircooled torch for now, once I get better then ill spend the extra money on the cooler  and watercooled torch.  I found this trim line torch on arc zone what do you guys think?  The thing is I don't know what the 2 piece or 1 piece cable means or which one I need for a dynasty 200dx, neither do I know which dinse connectors I would need for that welder.  Thanks for the help guys if you have any advice please tell! Thanks again!Alex

Reply:What is the difference between the 9 and 20? Is the 9 the smallest torch you can buy?TA PAK 5XRTA 185Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:the 9 is air cooled the 20 is water cooled, they are about the same size physically but the 9 is a 125 amp torch and the 20 is a 250-300amp torch. For long welds and production work the 20 is one of the best, for short welds where weight and portability is important the 9 is a great torch
Reply:Thanks. I have a 18 and would eventually like something smaller in water cooled. Is the 20 the smallest you can get?TA PAK 5XRTA 185Lincoln Wirematic 250
