I am finding my mp 350 with spool gun on 3/64 aluminum wire is too big for some jobs, especially on light materials.Have been getting calls for lighter work. Was thinking of lincoln precision tig 225.Anyone have any other ideas? Also does anyone have any recommended settings for mp 350 on .030/.035 wire. Thanks
Reply:Myself, I would look for a gently used PT275 or Square Wave255.Both have 300 amp top ends, and as been mentioned in many other threads, it's better to have too much amp capability than too little.I love my SW255!Rex
Reply:i like my pt 225 for what it's designed for. anything bigger i use the mm252 and 30a.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:Sounds like you are pretty much focused on aluminum.I would highly recommend you investigate Miller and Lincolns 200 Amp inverters.  Higher frequency welding on aluminum really helps with arc control and tungsten life (sharp points).  There really is no comparison.  If you are running your 350 off a 50 Amp circuit, you can make a plug and have either of these work.If you go for a transformer based welder, you might need bigger circuit.  I can say that the typical 300 Amp CC machines need 100Amp circuits.Add that smaller inverters are portable and work on 110V you have a cleaver solution to many different problems.Keep the MIG for the big stuff. If you are doing lots of aluminum, even in the 1/8 inch range, consider a water cooled torch.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
