I found a local guy who inherited a bunch of welding equipment. Seems like has has mostly OA stuff but he doesn't know for sure.He has some tanks and he is asking $100 per cylinder. That sounds too high to me.What is a guestimated going price for used tanks? Also used regulators? He has some of those as well.
Reply:What size tanks ?Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:He said they were "tall". I am assuming the regular sized large tanks but he has posted no pics and I have yet to see them.
Reply:If its the large one. That's a steal for a 100.00..........as long as there up to date and not leased tanks>Innovations are what i leave behind for History

Reply:Hydro tests aren't that bad. I think my place wants $20 if a cyl isn't in hydro ( if they even bother to notice). Most places today exchange cylinders so you don't usually have to worry about testing. They take the old one and send it out to be filled and tested if needed, and give you a new one filled with a good test date. The only time I've ever had my guy even ask about a test is if I've picked up a really cruddy cyl from CL. Usually even then he just "overlooks" the old date and swaps the cyl at no extra charge since I do a moderate amount of business with him.Near me any "large" ( over 150 cf) cylinder is almost always leased. If the cylinder isn't from that particular company, they won't exchange it. All the small guys who used to fill rather than exchange cyl are gone so even if you have an original "owner" cyl rather than a leased one you are SOL. I have an account with my LWS, and they don't care if I have a cyl listed on my account or not as far as the large ones. If it's thiers and I have an account, they'll exchange it. I've swapped cyl I've borrowed from friends this way and had no issues as long as they were using the same LWS I do.A "small" 60cf around me runs roughly $120-130 or so full, and 80 cf about $170-180 off the top of my head from my LWS to give you a comparision. You can find the sizing chart for cyl on here if you search. This subject has been covered frequently..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Originally Posted by MWaldenI was talking about purchasing an empty used cylinder from an individual. So what you are telling me is many places today won't fill cylinders that are not leased directly from them? And these prices you mentioned at the end are lease or purchase price on full tanks from a supplier?
Reply:That is waht I needed to understand. Thanks!
Reply:Take clear pics of the NECK RINGS and the STICKERS, and of the tanks themselves.Bring to your supplier so they can tell you before you spend money. |
