Credit to yorkiepap for the idea.  I think his name is Denny?  Anyway, I was sick of cutting on the ground and when I saw his stand I decided I needed to make a similar one.  I made mine a bit shorter (I am 6' 1", but it still felt more comfortable to me at a shorter height) than his.  A lot of it is the same though. The one thing I did that was really unique, was that I built an adjustable stock holder, with fins that flip up and  lock into place to keep the material from sliding off the edge. Reply:Wow, that is very nice!  It looks from the last picture that it is too tall to roll out of your garage...is that just the angle of the picture?Jeff

Reply:Added a spark shield tonight to keep the sparks semi-contained to the area of the chop saw.  Without it, 80% of my sparks fly 10 feet away.Cut it on the CNC, bent it up, painted it, and bolted it on. Reply:Hey jdh,Kudos on the job you did...looks great. Just a note to save you a headache down the road, either turn your receptacle box to the underside of the saw table, or make a flap cover over the box to keep cutting dust/debris from entering the receptacle blade openings. I've seen receptacles literally flame out like a road flare from a minute spark & totally melt the insides of the receptacle. Mine is placed under the rear of the saw facing inward. Here's a couple pics to give you a choice...Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Thanks for the info.  I am kind of hoping the spark shield I made will do that, but I may have to add another guard over the top of it as you did just to make sure the sparks don't send the thing south.  I appreciate you posting your original project.  It is a good design. The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:Very nice. What size tubing & wall thickness did you use? Thanks

Reply:The shield is a good idea. But be very careful about breathing the dust as it comes back towards you.  It's pure abrasive and metal dust, and is highly dangerous.I have an outdoor chop saw table, and even with the sparks/dust hitting a steel wall around 5 feet away, I can still taste the stuff in my mouth if I don't wear a dust mask."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Hey JDH39Great job on the Chop Saw Stand. I need to add a spark shield on mine. And probably add a receptacle too - that is a good idea from Yorkiepap.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:Hey JDH:Nice job. I have exactly the same stand only mine came in blue.I also very much agree with Denny on the receptacle. I have mine turned underneath.I don't quite understand your stop blocks though. Why do you have the latch mechanism. The spark arrestor you built is nice as well. I may have to copy that for mine. What size did you make it? I also like your cord winding holder. Nice additional.A few of us have built these and there are some other good ideas around that you may like as well. There is a shelf that Denny and others have added under the saw. I haven't had time to build mine yet but I plan on adding it.This is without a doubt one of the handiest things I have in my shop. I thank Denny almost every day that I use it. I cut a LOT of pipe and it sure makes the job go a lot easier. Much appreciated Denny.JDH I know you will really appreciate the design.Cheers.Sign on East Texas payphone: Calls to God 40 cents......it's a local call...

Reply:Forgot to mention.... one other change I did was to move the storage posts to the back (compared to Denny's version).  I found that they were in the way where I had them during the times I was cutting small amounts of material and didn't need the supports.  Now, I can cut with them in their stored position, or move them out when I plan on larger jobs. The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:+1 on protecting the outlet box.  Quick and easy and just a few $$ is to go and get an 'in-use outdoor box cover'.http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INT...AZ5?Pid=searchShould be less expensive at a local electrical-supply store or even at a big-box type store (Lowes or HomeDepot).Or drape the piece of rubber sheet in front of it to keep metal dust from getting in too easily.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:I modified my spark shield today.  After doing some cutting I found I was getting a lot more sparks coming my way.  I put my hand at the top of the shield and most of my problems went away..... so I designed this piece to fit around the saw in the upright position.  I would let you know if it works or not, but the paint is still trying.  I am pretty confident it will keep the sparks from coming back at me. Reply:I cut a step in a 55 Gallon steel drum.  Then placed some support rods to make a grid and covered that with expanded metal.  No trash gets in like paper or burnables, the top and step stop the sparks and they are all collected with no mess.  The down side is if it ever gets filled I will need a crain to move it.  I have it set an a furniture dolly like Grizzly has on sale and run my extension cord to it up ro a 100 feet away.  The cord is on a reel so it is not a problem deplying or recovering the cord when I am done.  Cheap, recycled material and disposable when full.  I'm good with that.  Your table looks sweet too as well as Dennies.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?

Reply:Excellent project.  I really need to build a stand like this so I can get my chop saw off the bench. After first seeing your spark shield, I told myself, "the sparks are going to hit that and go straight up!".  Glad to see you revised it.  Again, excellent work on this.  I'm going to use it as a reference for when I build one.
