Just bought a new Lincoln 225 Ac stick welder from Lowe's. Now help me with the hook up, 50 Amp double pole breaker, #6 wire (less than 50' run from panel box) two hot legs to NEMA6-50 receptical and the ground wire. Is this the correct and safe installation for this unit? I have been on internet and hear all kinds of installations. No neutral white wire is used to the neutral bar.Thank You zarpman66
Reply:Correct, two hots and a ground. No neutral for 240 volt."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:If there are 115 volt receptacles on the welder then use a neutral wire the same gauge as the two hot leads are. Fifty feet could be borderline in wire size due to voltage drop. It wouldn't hurt to go to # 4 ga. wire. If your using aluminum you will definitely have to increase by one wire size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:Thank You Guys, I was getting confused on the correct way to wire the outlet however:I feel confident to listen to experience and can sleep at night knowing my house will not burn down.My Dad used to do all my wireing in my house years ago but he has been dead for 16 years and I still run to the phone to call for advice and think that is not going to work.Once again thank you.zarpman66
Reply:Sounds as if you have all you need for this situation, but do yourself a favor and the next time you're down at the big box store pick up a wiring guide.
