I was wondering if you can fix a crack in an aluminum boat hull with a pt225. I heard if you weld it and it has flexibility it will crack on the edge of the weld. Was wondering what the procedure would be. No pics just wondering because I thaught it could be done.
Reply:If the boat is welde together then you can weld it. If it is rivited together then you should rivit a patch over the hole. Mac
Reply:You should drill a small hole at each end of the crack. Use a skinny wheel to cut a groove along the length of the crack, then you should have no trouble welding it up. I have done it many times.BillUA Local 598

Reply:I have a riveted boat that has been welded. About a 6" gash in the bow where dad hit a rock at about 20mph. It's held up fine for the last 20 years or so. A friend of his tig'd it.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
Reply:I have done a lot of boat repairs where marine epoxy was used and there were conditions that I couldn't just remove a big section and replace. I actually like mig the best since I can put a bunch of crap weld in there, sand it out, and put more on top. Eventually you will get a nice bead, and these are on small john boats to 23'. And if you boat people are on here.... DON'T REPAIR BOATS WITH STEEL BOLTS AND WASHERS...
