Any body got plans and blue prints for a 5by 8 or 10 trailer and a material list. I need to build a trailer to haul my motorcycles. every other trailer I ahve built was done out of 4" Channel just because tthats what I got for free. lol But I would like to build a light weight trailer out of 2" 3/16  wall tube or equivilant. I looked at the trailers from homedepot and they are just pittaful excuses for trailers. I wouldn't trust it to haul a load of scrap metal let alone a $10k chopper. Pics and details would be appericated. I looked on here and saw a ton of welding trailers I have browsed on google images and they have tons of pics but no details.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:Using my results from GOOGLE...http://gt1.homeip.net/project-trailer.htmSeriously, there are so many threads on other forums about building trailers and such. Don't go to images, just type in "5x10 trailer build forums" or "5x8 trailer build forums"... then pick up a pencil and paper and start drawing blueprints for it.Miller Performance AD Helmet - Camo Edition Soon to have: Jackson HSL 100 - Forest Digi CamoMiller Thunderbolt AC/DC((Currently at welding school))

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWSorry I'm going to play "Trailer Police"...There's a lot more to properly designing a trailer than then "pick up a pencil and paper and start drawing blueprints for it", unless you happen to be a structural engineer. Cheap light weight trailers aren't just tossed together, they are specifically designed to maximize strength of the inexpensive materials and use as little steel as possible. Move a few things or change sizes a bit and you can change the structural integrity pretty quick. It's usually not too hard to do a little 2K trailer and have everything work, but as you start getting heavier and heavier, the "fudge" factor can get slim real quick. Add in most average people almost always over load a trailer way beyond it's "rated" capacity, and you have a recipe for disaster. Add in the huge liability you take on not just for the build, but for the design as well. All this just to save $30-50 that it costs for a engineered set of plans from places like Northern tool. If the OP doesn't want to risk a HD  trailer on a $10K bike, I doubt a WAG at structural design is the right route to go.

Reply:Yeah kinda hard to see spending $1500 on something like that they are on sale at lowes because  a couple of the welds have already broke one had welds like that holding the spring hanger and the others had broken welds on the tailgates and the expanded metal decking comeing up.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Reply:Thanks for the help I ended up just cutting and extending one of my spare welding machine trailers it is not exactly what I wanted as far as width it will haul one bike perfectly and it was basically free except for welder fuel. I will post pics when i get it completed.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:I think you can get this done without plans, but rather with common sense and a fair amount of investigation. You have obviously seen what is sold in the trailer world and passes as a weld. I used 2x3 rectangular tube 1/8 inch thick and built about a dozen of these. All the information you need is online. I'll probably get bashed a little here for supporting this project but I believe a man who cares about his project quality and safety can do this.UA Local 598
