I read the manual and set it up the best I could determine was right, only problem, I did not set it to the MIG setting on the 250G. Will this damage the spool gun?  I did not have the main lead hooked to the CV terminal, I had it hooked up to the same terminal used for all other welding, I tried it with it hooked up to the CV terminal and no love there either. It will flow gas but does not turn the spool. The spool gun is in very good condition, looks like it's got less than 3 months of use, really good shape.I realize there's a lot going on getting this hooked up right but I would appreciate anyone willing to take a stab at it.This is how I"ve tried it: Work hooked up to the HF251, positive hooked up to the appropriate terminal, gas hooked up, constant hi freq, panel, all plugs hooked up, one to the 250G and one to the 251 from the spool gun.I've tried everything, switched this, that etc and no love. Spool will not turn, I can pull the wire out of the nozzle, it's not frozen and it's not rat nested up in the gun.The HF 251 works as it should, tested that today. I works on tig normal and tig AC.Last edited by MOA1; 11-13-2013 at 01:05 AM.
Reply:Thanks. The Prince XL has an adapter of sorts, called "the torpedo" that is supposed to make it compatible with the Miller.  I did hook it up the HF251 with continuous high freq, I'll check a direct hook up to the 250G, see if that works. The spool gun is too expensive to just toss out! IF I can get it repaired it would be worth it. It is in excellent shape cosmetically. Thanks again.
Reply:I eliminated the HF out of the loop. Direct to 250G, spool works, gas works, on AC all I get is a little spark, maybe a couple volts. I put it on EP and it melted the wire into the tip pretty dang fast. Got all that repaired to try again and I'm just not getting current to the wire when set on AC.Work to work, spool gun to CV,  250G set to AC, set on AV 24/36,. fine adj at 50%.  Tried fine adj. all the way up and it made no difference.  Only thing I haven't tried yet is EN.  Figured since I got a pass on the first screw up maybe I should wait for some instructions before I make a mess of it and fry this spool gun.Oh, I'm running .060 solid alum wire
Reply:I want this spool gun to run the aluminum primarily because I have a small mig (SP135) that gets the majority of the welding done with flux core. Using the spool gun to  run larger wire for thicker metal, also using a mixed gas for steel, that would be icing on the cake.  I know it will handle much more than the SP135 however, what is the max a MIG will do with the 250G using a mixed gas outer shielded gas?(Ughh, I've been welding a long time with many certs to my name and never came across this before. I pride myself on being able to set up anything, until now.) Humbling. I've set up push pull alum welders before and was thee only one that knew how to run that machine in that shop. If you were not a weldor, you wouldn't be able to run that machine. But it was a dedicated MIG machine by Lincoln.Guess I have some more studying to do. Last edited by MOA1; 11-13-2013 at 06:31 PM.

Reply:Thanks.
Reply:For some reason I had in my mind that aluminum runs on AC...   Thanks for your help. It's up and running, just not as good as I'd like. I'm sure it has to do with the tip being considerably shorter than it should be due to having to clean it up back to where it was open enough for the wire to travel thru.Again, thanks.
Reply:Ya, me too, it's an expensive spool gun. It will come in handy when I want to do thick steel using gas mix for a nice looking weld. Thanks for the help.
