I know the weld is bad, but I'm more worried about the amount of splatter I have. I've tried several different things and they all seem to have an excessive amount of splatter. It's a 90amp ARC/MIG welder with no gas, but it has flux rods so they said it should have less splatter than regular ARC. I wire-wheeled the metal surface before welding too.Any help? It's really discouraging. Thanks!

Reply:Try one of Jody's videos on the subject:http://welding-tv.com/2013/08/20/115v-flux-core-tips/When that is done, type flux core in the search box and watch some more.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:That looks to me like the polarity is wrong. DCEP is what it should be.
Reply:You will get some Splatter with flux core wire, once you get the wire speed and your heat at the right spot you should have a lot less splatter than what you have now, just keep working at it....
Reply:I'm a confused newbie. Did you use arc welding rods or flux core MIG wire? Thanks!

Reply:I would guess polarity too, but not sure you can even change it on that machine...
Reply:Most of the 90a machines are AC.

Reply:Do the flux core only machines allow polarity change?  I'd think they'red be little reason to.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Max your voltage out, then come up on the wire feed speed until its right.  I don't know why the heck these 90 amp cheapos or most 110v MIG units even have taps or settings below "wide open"...
Reply:after your polarity is correct (DECN) turn amperage maxed out , also recommend that you make sure your power source is powerful, turn wire pretty low (depending on the rollers being correct and tight enough) worked for me almost add low as it goes and keep Nozzle, if you have, close (~1/2") angling the gun almost directly at material. (i personally whip out of my puddle very briefly and instantaneously whip back half way and continue works great for me.popweld19Using Tapatalk
