Surprised at Generator output of a Miller 250G

Only 4KW!  For a 20HP machine, that's pretty poor performance in my opinion.  Disappointed because I found a very low hour machine that had been kept under cover (looks new), at a good price but I need the machine to double as a standby power generator for hurricane season.Seems the Lincoln machines with about the same HP produce 8KW which would have been perfect.  None of those around here at a reasonable price though... guess I'll just keep looking.
Reply:that's an old machine. Did you look at the one in Pcola on craigslist? I was going to buy it but for what he wanted and the lack of power, I waited. Good thing I did because I ended up with an 07 bobcat 250 with a suitcase extreme 12vs feeder for about $1500. That's got an 11kw on it and is able to run everthing I need

Reply:I told him I'd give him $1400 cash and he said come get it...but it's still not worth it. It is a clean machine...but I'd pass on it again if it were me. He did have an old hobart champion 16d with a lister petter that had 8kw on it but I think he's sold it now. I'm glad I passed because the suitcase feeder alone was worth more than what I had in the waverunner that I traded for the whole setup. I saw that bobcat too, but seems a bit high for an older machine with those hours. I don't know why everyone down around here thinks they are sitting on a gold mine. Then again I had a guy tell me he would come buy my trailer today for $100 cash but wouldn't give me a dollar more. Funny because another guy came and got it for $300 today. Crazy. Now, to find a cutting torch around here for a good price. come on craigslist haha
Reply:Well after first refusing my offer (politely) he called back to say he'd take it.... however by then I'd gotten interested in the Bobcat due to the Aux power ability and told him so... so, spank my butt he offers it too me for 1100.... bought it this afternoon.  runs great, welds great.Now I have to find a small trailer for it...  it's always something!
