I am thinking about getting another welder. I am not sure what to do. I have a Hobart beata mig 200 set up with co2 and 035 wire that I use most and I really like it and works for me. I weld a variety of thickness up to 3/4 inch. I also have an older Dayton ac/dc stick welder also works. Then a few years back my brother picked up a couple of miller cp 300 power units. We just put up a new building with 3ph so I pulled one out hooked it up and put my long stick leads on fired it up and it seems to weld. So my question is should I get a wire feeder set up for the cp 300? Miller has one a 22a or, 24a according to miller literature for about 1200. Plus bottle, regulator, and other misc. Or should I look at a whole new unit? I question if the power unit is worth it because of its age. I know older is not always bad lots of things still work.I don't have to have a welder as my other one still works. I would not want to go less than 250 amps if I bought new. Also if I got an air carbon arc gouging setup would it work on the cp 300? (I don't need this either just want to try something different may find a use sometime) Thanks for your opinion/advice

Reply:You can pick up used feeders for way less money. I bet you can get a nice S22 feeder for less than $500 easy. I want to say that it would be even less, but it's been a while since I priced one, so I'll play it safe and go high. Steve can probably hook you up with a 50 series feeder for a decent price also. Reply:your cp-300 does it have the14 pin feeder plug or two twist-lock plugs.?The units with twist-lock plugs only have 115 volts for feeders and need an adapter box to run 24 volt feeders. 14 pin plug units can run both types. For 115 volt only welders, you can find used S52 feeders or a new R115 feeder.
