I have this old 225 and thought that I would do a little cleaning and give it a new coat of paint to make it look better. I have olny had this welder for about two week and after I checked that every thing worked it was time for a little cleaning. Reply:You're doing it way too in depth, way too thorough, way too by-the-book.  You're fired.  The rest of us can't post anything else now because it'll be half-assed compared to this.  Thanks a lot.  Nice work.  That finish should last a pretty good while.Lincoln AC225 and CartLincoln WeldPak HD and CartOne hand

Reply:Unless he sands that out of the primer paint and puts of a finish coat you can see your face in! Then too he may use my arguement... that's on the inside where no one will see it! Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Good eyes Rick V. you found the run that I have in it. You are right it is in side so I will not be sanding and fixing it. I did get a little color on it this evening and will be shooting more in the morning. Thanks for all the comments, this has been fun so far but I am ready to get it back together and start burning some rods. Attached Images

Reply:What the Heck colour (color) is that? Is that ... PINK????  PORKY-THE-PIG PAINT !!!Wait, that looks like Amaranth!According to Wikapedia...  Amaranth is a reddish-rose color that is a representation of the color of the flower of the amaranth plant. So what happened to International Red or Universal Red or even Fire Engine Red?Last edited by Rick V; 09-16-2011 at 11:53 PM.Reason: got away from meRick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Well since you asked, it is a mix of Carnival Red and Leather Brown.  It did NOT look that pink in person. I didnt like it either so I went and got some Safety Red, I like it better.   Does this look more like a Lincoln Red? Attached Images
Reply:IMO it looks Way Better in that colour (color)!  Hmmm... Safety Red?   Given your logo, I was expecting Fire Engine Red. Now... do I detect orange peel?    Is there a rougher surface to that Safety Red paint compared to the previous shiny gloss you had with the Porky-Pig-Pink?Hey Firefighter, I'm just yanking your chain - just funning and no offence intended.  Monica and I went through refurbs on our respective AC-225s - that's why the pokes of fun.  I found that getting a good final finish was a challenge.  Since you took it down to bare metal, you had/have the best chance of puling off a super finish - so we are all expectant.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:I dont know what happened, and yes it is orange peeled. The only thing that I can think of is that the Rustolum Paint has some kind of krinkle to it. Any way it is better than PINK!!!!!!!

Reply:Could also be the solvent carrier in the red paint attacking the still not fully cured pink paint.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:The gun was not HVLP, I dont have one  It is a cheap Buffalo Gravity Feed with a 1.4 tip.  After an hour or two the orange peel is gone and it is looking good. I will send more pics once it has cured. As I am putting this back together I will take more pics. P.S. I did clean and oil the fan motor, clean and wire brush the screw heads this afternoon.   I am just waiting on the paint to dry.     This is about as much fun as watching the grass grow.

Reply:I understand, I hope you are not like a friend of mine. He would purchase two of the same thing when he purchased anything.  Dont ask me why but he always did. He has now passed but when I saw that you had 2 welders just alike that reminded me of my friend. Thanks for joging my memory.
Reply:Final post on the 225 Clean upAs you can tell by the pictures that it is all back together, Yes It Still Works. Thanks for all the very nice comments. Talk to all soon Attached Images

Reply:I start with 20% thinner 80% paint out of the can... and see how it sprays.  If it globs around the nozzle or spits lumps, I add more thinner.  Too much thinner and the paint will run bad on vertical surfaces. Every paint is different and you really have to find your own optimum ratio - and that also depends upon the temperature and humidy and on how far you hold the spray gun from the work - farther back and more thinner evaporates from the paint before impacting the surface.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
