Here's my work on the base. I made the front-to-back base leg a little longer than side-to-side to assist in steadying when I'm adding pressure grinding objects.I tried to notch the tube as best I could for a flush fit, did okay as it was my first time trying that. 3/32" tungsten, 3/32" carbon steel filler, bout 140a set, probably 70-80% of that or maybe a little more.tubing is 2x4x1/8" (or, if I'm stating wrong, it's the same size as 2x4 wood.)I'll be welding on a nut and adjustable feet out of either rubber or carriage bolts (not decided yet, carriage bolts would move around easily on my floor surface for moving out of the way).My welding consistency is still pretty terrible but I feel a lot better that I'm progressing. Felt like I got a good puddle without undercutting and got good penetration. I'm getting more comfortable in my sitting position and stuff. Attached ImagesHobart EZ-Tig newbie.

Reply:As you say you need to work on consistency, but in general they don't look that bad. 3rd pict looks the best. 4th one the welds look a bit cold, but that just might be because of the blurry picture. Fit up looks decent overall from what I can see. I've seen a lot worse.Practice, practice, practice....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thank you @ DSW. I'm getting there. Getting more comfortable while welding was a big part of it, I think. Here's one more pic.I went over all the welds with a wire brush afterwards, before these pics. Attached ImagesHobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:Last 1/2 of that weld looks pretty good with a few minor blips. You're getting there, keep it up.Edit: you posted up the 2nd set of picts while I was typing..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
